You don’t really have a lot of options if you want to spend more than $1,000 on a single Android Wear smartwatch. Tag Heuer essentially cornered this market with the original Connected smartwatch last year that was priced at $1,800. The company has now launched the successor to its first smartwatch and it’s called the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45. The price starts at $1,650 but if you go overboard with the options you can end up spending almost $6,000.
Tag Heuer has opted for a modular design approach which means that customers can choose from 56 versions of the new Tag Heuer smartwatch. The total number of combinations that can be made with additional parts happens to be more than 500. Customers can choose from a variety of straps, lugs, and bezel designs.
More premium materials will obviously push the price up. Those who want one can even buy a gold and diamond-encrusted version which costs over $6,000. Since it’s a modular smartwatch, if you own the additional parts you can do so much more with this watch. It’s even possible to remove and replace the smartwatch core with a conventional Tag Heuer Calibre 5 or Heuer 02T Tourbillon mechincal movement.
As far as the specs are concerned, the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 features a 1.39 inch AMOLED display housed in a 45mm case. It’s powered by an Intel Atom Z34XX processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, and a 410mAh battery. Additional features include NFC, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. It doesn’t have LTE support or fitness-focused hardware like a heart rate sensor. It runs Android Wear 2.0.
