Sony’s New PS4 Platinum Wireless Headset Releases January 12th

Sony has announced a new gaming headset that it’s calling the Platinum Wireless Headset. The company is going to start selling this headset from next month. The headset promises enhanced, highly positional 7.1 virtual surround sound made possible by PlayStation’s proprietary 3D audio technology. It also features hidden noise-cancelling microphones to enable crisp and clear communication without requiring a boom mic.

Sony says that the Platinum Wireless Headset brings together superior construction and design with style, durability, and maximum comfort. The product has been developed to provide a comfortable experience particularly during long gaming sessions.

The Platinum Wireless Headset brings 3D audio to PlayStation 4 games. Naughty Dog is the first to support 3D audio into a game with a patch for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Titles such as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, MLB The Show 17, Days Gone, and more will soon have 3D audio support on PS4 as well.

3D audio on the console basically recreates the effect of audio arriving at the ears from different directions and distances to replicate how sound behaves in real life. The product is compatible with the PlayStation VR as well, it works with almost all kinds of devices courtesy the 3.5mm audio cable that’s included with the headset.

Sony Platinum Wireless Headset is going to be available for purchase starting January 12th for $159.99.
