Tesla has long boasted that its autopilot feature can help reduce accidents. In more than one instance we have seen it work. Now it looks like Tesla can boast about its Emergency Braking system too because in the video above uploaded by Kyle Conner, you get to see how Tesla’s emergency braking system helped prevent a potentially serious accident.
Basically what happened is that Conner’s dad was driving behind a car when it suddenly slammed on its brakes due to another car in front doing the same. The Tesla Model X that Conner was driving detected a potential accident in front of them and sounded the alarm before apply the brakes and swerving to the right so as to not hit the car in front of them.
According to Conner’s description of the event, “Automatic Emergency Braking warning kicking in on our Model X to help alert and avoid a potentially serious accident. My dad was driving the car, footage shot on a Blackvue dash cam, and Autopilot was not engaged.” Had Conner’s dad applied the brakes manually, there’s a good chance he could have still plowed into the car in front judging from how far ahead the Model X had stopped even after applying the brakes.
