New Far Cry Or Assassin’s Creed Games May Not Be Released In 2017

Ubisoft has already said that it’s taking a break from the Assassin’s Creed series to evaluate the franchise and come up with a way to reinvent the experience for fans. Many believed that this meant it would not release an Assassin’s Creed title in 2016 and would come out with one in 2017 but that might not necessarily be the case. Ubisoft may not launch a new Assassin’s Creed or even a new Far Cry title in 2017.

Tommy François, the vice president of editorial at Ubisoft, has said that the Assassin’s Creed franchise and even the Far Cry franchise might take a longer hiatus than expected. His comments echo those made earlier by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

“I’ll tell you what. We believe alpha for these games needs to be one year before release,” François said, adding that Ubisoft is trying to achieve this aim and that it’s aiming for more quality and more polish for the new titles. “So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin’s game, or a Far Cry [in 2017], f*** it,” he told IGN.

We knew that Ubisoft has been thinking of ways to revamp the Assassin’s Creed franchise but it hasn’t said the same before about Far Cry. François does say that this doesn’t necessarily mean that sales are down, “Far Cry’s only been going up in sales,” he claimed, and said that it’s actually a break in the brand and Ubisoft is doing it for that break.

“I just want people to fall in love when people try the next iteration of one of these two brands,” he wished.
