Would you like your Philips Hue smart lighting system to do more than what it already does? If yes, then you might want to consider the new $40 Motion Sensor that Philips has now introduced for the Hue. It works like any other motion-sensing lighting system would. The lights will automatically switch on when the motion detector picks up some movement in front of it. However, there is one thing that makes it different from many similar products.
The Hue’s motion sensor takes its power from a battery which means that it can easily be placed anywhere around the house. Simply plug two AAA batteries and Philips says that the motion sensor is good for up to three years. The motion sensor’s angle can be adjusted up to 30 degrees horizontally and vertically because the back of this device is magnetic.
The $40 motion sensor will connect to the Hue Bridge and send a Philips Hue command whenever it picks up motion. This will turn on the lights in that particular area. The motion detector can also ascertain whether it’s night or day to ensure that it doesn’t turn on all of the lights during the day.
