Imagine a jewelry smart enough to track your fitness activity, breathing activity, Sleep cycle, and monthly cycle. Introducing a beautifully crafted fitness tracker by Bellabeat called Leaf. There are many wearable activity trackers in the market but a chic tracker like LEAF is a rarity.
For our Bellabeat Leaf Review, we received the white ash wood with silver stainless steel clip device.
The device is in the shape of a leaf – the main body is made of natural wood while the leaf design which is the clip; made of stainless steel. The clip is incorporated beautifully within the aesthetic and is available in silver, rose gold and gold plating. It comes with a versatile design which can be worn as a bracelet, necklace or a clip. The color of premium leather bracelet coordinates with the color of the wood.
It’s elegant yet bulky at around 48x30x13 mm and weighs 18g. The Leaf is certainly meant for sporty actions but it is not water resistant.

Tracking and its App
The unique feminine design compliments the no-fuss app and tracking system. Sync your device with the app (android or iOS) and complete your profile by mentioning your height, weight, birthdate, and goals. Suggestion and recommendations are also made by the app. By default, the app has set 20 minutes of activity per day and 7-9 hours of sleep each night. This can, of course, be customized.
When it comes to activity; the Leaf tracks your daily step, distance covered and calories; while the sleep functions record light sleep, deep sleep, and disturbances. The progress is tracked and displayed on a scale from 0-100.
The activity tracking is reasonably accurate when compared to other tracking devices. However, it may vary depending on where you wear the device. When it’s clipped on the upper part of the body, as suggested by Bellabeat, it provides a more liberal reading. But we even found some activities were tracked accurately when worn as a bracelet. Though we were careful of keeping it away from water though it can handle sweat. LEAF is not water resistant and since it is made out of wood I was very cautious while washing my hands.
Thus we are waiting for an option to choose how we are wearing the leaf during an activity or in the day. If this upgrade comes through, you will get another in-depth Bellabeat LEAF review from us. Sleep tracking offers this option, so I guess it will not be much of an issue to add it for activity.
Within the app tap on the activity bar and your daily achievements will be seen in form of graphs, stats and cards. It will show you how long you have been active, a number of calories you have burnt and how far you have walked. You can view daily scores or a seven-day average.

Sleep is the next tab we tried. Measurement during sleep in near accurate. I have a problem with its understanding of my sleep time and wake time. Fortunately, you can correct these mistakes manually the very next morning when you sync the app. The chart indicating the duration and percentage of sleep is color-coded in light and dark purple. The app also ensures that it has the correct data before it logs them.
The breathing and meditation exercise was next on our list. This exercise is tracked best when worn on the waist. As we started our meditation, the Leaf started tracking our breathing. The audio cues were very relaxing, increased concentration and eased away stress. It even picks up body movement and the data displayed was very accurate. Feeling rejuvenated, this could easily be synced into my life goals. However, Leaf doesn’t track breathing automatically, it has to be manually operated.
Moving ahead, the monthly cycles tab directs you to fill the date of your last cycle (Click the droplet icon on top of the app to reveal this tab). It then indicates the date of next cycle, fertile days and ovulation date. It works just like any other app of similar nature.

Thankfully leaf doesn’t come with a separate charging option. The coin cell battery powers Leaf for about 6 months. There is no percentage indicator; still, we can safely say that till the time of writing this Bellabeat LEAF review the battery icon has not moved.
Though replacing the battery may be quite a task. A tiny screwdriver is required for changing the battery. We did try opening up this compartment. The screw is very small. Once the screw is removed, the metal part separates from the wood. Beneath the spongy protective layer lies the LEAF internals and battery.
Bellabeat also offers a one-year limited warranty on LEAF. So far, LEAF is one of my favorite smart jewelry and for sure tech enthusiast women will also love it.
