Mirabook is a laptop shell that can can convert your smartphone into a working laptop

Converting a Smartphone into a Laptop is increasingly becoming a popular concept for manufacturers and buyers alike, who want to maximise productivity as well as function of their smartphones without needing to shell out for a full-fledged laptop. While there are many solutions out there made by companies that form a medium to convert the smartphone into a computer connected to an external screen, Mirabook makes it easier.

Mirabook is available for pre-order on Indiegogo (Miraxess)

Mirabook is the entire laptop shell, with a Full-HD screen, a keyboard and a track pad that is compatible with almost any operating system out there, from Raspberry Pi to Windows to Android. Mirabook offers compatibility with the Samsung DeX, Oxi OS, Leena OS, Maru OS, Remix Singularity, Windows 10 Continuity, a range of PC sticks and Raspberry Pi, more specifically, according to a report by Digital Trends. Of course, iOS is missing from the equation, but that is a sacrifice that Apple users will have to make.

The notebook shell itself is an aluminium-finished clamshell of a device with a 13.3-inch IPS screen that comes with its own storage and battery life. A USB Type-C is used for charging and input, while there is another extra Type-C port as well, an HDMI port, a USB Type-A port and some audio jack connections too. The device itself looks pretty sleek and comes in a few colour-accented options.

The Mirabook by Miraxess reportedly will be supported through funding by Indiegogo. One of the USB Type-Cs being used in the notebook is also used to connect to the smartphone or device from where the software will come. This probably means that older phones with the Micro USB form factor will not be compatible. Whether that will be the case or if there is a workaround it is yet to be seen.

We expect the device to be only as capable as its connected smartphone or apparel. This means that at the most, people will be able to decently use the laptop for word processing quite comfortably. The estimated retail pricing for the device will be around $299. But for the early birds, users will be able to pay $199. For those who want to get in on the action, they can pledge to the campaign on Indiegogo, where they will get three tickets that will guarantee the same early-bird price to three other references of the buyer’s choosing.
