Xiaomi is all over the internet for the past several weeks. All thanks to its new Flagship Xiaomi Mi 6’s release date fiasco. Originally scheduled for release this March end, or April at the latest, Xiaomi Mi 6 is now headed for a “tentative” release date on May for an obvious reason – Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is Qualcomm’s top priority as of the moment and the small guys need to give way.
With Xiaomi Mi 5 announced in March last year, tech fans was under the assumption that Xiaomi Mi 6, the successor, will also be launched around the same date, but it was missing in action at the MWC 2017 in February. Instead, Xiaomi announced (not in MWC) their new processor the Surge S1; two new phones, the Xiaomi Mi 5C and the Redmi 4x; a walkie talkie and a train recorder.
But the company is still in dilemma on when is the best time to launch their most anticipated flagship Xiaomi Mi 6.
PCAdvisor UK noted that the said indecision could have something to do with the loss of Xiaomi’s leader, Hugo Barra, who recently moved up to Silicon Valley to join Facebook as VP of VR.
Another rumor has recently surfaced that the main reason for the delayed release date of Xiaomi Mi 6 is primarily due to Samsung Galaxy S8. Some manufacturers were forced to use the Snapdragon 821 in their newest flagship devices instead of the Snapdragon 835 due to its unavailability of Qualcomm’s most sought-after processor.
Samsung has managed to acquire a ton of Snapdragon 835 chips for their much-anticipated new flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S8, leaving HTC and LG to release their new phones with the Snapdragon 821. Xiaomi, on the other hand, need to wait a bit before they can get their hands on the Snapdragon 835, pushing Xiaomi Mi 6’s release date until May.
Xiaomi Mi 6 is rumored to have a 6GB of RAM and on Android Nougat. It will be released in both Snapdragon 835 and Helio X30 with a 5.2 inch LCD display with 6 different variants. According to Gizmo China, the said brand will have a camera similar to that Sony’s latest pride, the Xperia XZ Premium. As for the pricing, a Gizmo source confided that it’ll keep the price tag at CNY 1999 ($290)
We’ll see then in the next few weeks which of these rumors are going be straight facts.
