Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 for 2019 5G Mobile Devices

Since the first 5G standard was officially approved 5 months ago, the entire industry is eager to keep up with this 5G Mobile network connection technology. With the latest released Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X50 5G NR modem, a few of consumer electronics companies have committed to making 5G-ready mobile devices start in 2019 by using the X50 modem.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 Overview
Snapdragon X50 5G modem is the first 5G modem which is designed to support the next generation of mobile devices. When paired with a Snapdragon processor with an integrated Gigabit class LTE modem, the complete Snapdragon X50 5G platform can provide multi-mode 4G/5G capability via dual connectivity with download speeds of up to 5 Gbps which is 5x faster than the current Qualcomm 4G modem Snapdragon X20.
The Snapdragon X50 supports 28 GHz mmWave spectrum initially, the very high frequency, short wave length kind of radio communication that has been associated with 5G. It can connect using up to 800 MHz of bandwidth via 8×100 MHz carrier aggregation. By comparison, the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem can only do 80 MHz of carrier aggregation with 4X CA in 20 MHz blocks.
The Snapdragon X50 5G modem can provide a vastly more immediate connection between the user and the cloud, opening up the possibilities of an entirely new generation of applications and services.
5G for Devices
The realization 5G networks will finally bring fundamental changes for most of our current devices, such as enhanced mobile broadband to smartphones, always Connected PCs, head-mounted displays (HMD) for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR); and Mobile Broadband. All of devices require constant and consistent cloud connectivity.
5G mobile phones: With 5G, consumers will almost never again need to log on to public Wi-Fi. They will also enjoy faster browsing, faster downloads, better quality video calls, UHD and 360-degree video streaming and instant cloud access than currently available.
Always Connected PCs: With the advent of 5G networks, “Always Connected” PCs will be able to utilize super high speed, low latency connectivity for the next level of cloud services, as well as high-quality video conferencing, interactive gaming and increased productivity due to the flexibility to work anywhere.
HMDs: 5G enhanced mobile broadband will further elevate virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR) experiences with its increased capacity at lower cost and ultra-low latency – down to 1 millisecond.
Mobile Broadband: Fiber speeds and massive capacity to support insatiable consumer demand for unlimited data, as well as superior mobile and home broadband internet access.
Globe OEM with X50

X50 5G NR modem family has been selected by a number of global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for standard-compliant 5G NR mobile device product launches. These include OEMs such as Asus, Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Connected Technologies Limited, HMD Global – the home of Nokia phones, HTC, Inseego/Novatel Wireless, LG, NetComm Wireless, NETGEAR, OPPO, Sharp Corporation, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, vivo, Wingtech, WNC and Xiaomi. There are some notable absentees, of course. Huawei, which has been making its own chipsets, is missing, as is Apple. Let’s expect more 5G modems come out.
