Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.
App of the Week
Noisy Book [$1/£1 full unlock]
Noisy Book is an ingenious new app that sets out to make reading more fun and interactive for kids. The idea is that they (or you) read out a story, while the app uses the iPhone’s in-built voice recognition capabilities to transcribe it. Noisy Book then picks out key words and adds relevant sound effects – a fanfare for the word ‘King’, a hooting owl for the word ‘night’ – to accompany the reading in real time.
Game of the Week
Mario Kart Tour [Free]
What’s surprising about Mario Kart Tour is just how much like ‘real’ Mario Kart it feels. The tracks have been lifted straight from previous console entries, while the one-handed drag-to-steer controls translate the power-sliding action surprisingly well. Nintendo’s latest mobile game has drawn considerable criticism for its $5/£5 per month special tier, and it’s true that comparisons to the Apple Arcade subscription aren’t flattering. Ignore that optional fee, however, and you have a very accomplished casual racer.

App Store Classic
Tasty is a recipe app that looks good enough to eat. It’s chock-full of colorful food photos, sharp fonts, and instant-playing video snippets. Once you do dive into its recipes, you’ll find that the taste matches the presentation. Each recipe is easy to follow and, where necessary, fully broken down into steps. Meanwhile, those aforementioned videos provide instant previews of how the recipe should unfold. If you like your food apps to be as entertaining as they are informative, Tasty should leave you deeply satisfied.
