Faraday Future FF 91: The New Breed of Electric Mobility

Whether it’s Lucid Motors’ impressive 100K luxury Electric sedan, Fisker’s self-driving EMotion EV, or even Jaguar’s virtual reality unveiling of its I-Pace SUV, 2016 has been quite the year for electric vehicles. No wonder Las Vegas’ 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a much-anticipated event, especially for those interesting in checking out the latest EV prototypes ready to hit the consumer marketplace.

There is one electric vehicle at this year’s CES that will certainly impress. Unveiled for the first time at a private event before CES and Faraday Future’s first EV prototype: The FF 91. This is a no-nonsense-top-of-the-line-peak-performance-high-tech marvel of an electric sedan that stands to revolutionize the EV industry. With production set for 2018 and pre-orders already being inked, the FF 91 is a “new breed of electric mobility.”

0-60 Mph in a Record-Breaking 2.39 Seconds

Capable of firing off the line at a clip of 0-60 mph in a record-breaking 2.39 seconds, the FF 91 comes with a 783kW (1050 hp) peak-performance motor that makes merging onto highways a piece of cake. Armed with a super-charged 130kWh battery, the FF 91 comes with a high-energy density battery that gets 378 miles (EPA est.) on a single charge. The world-class battery storage capabilities are the results of the company’s first Inverter patent called FF Echelon. Partnering with LG Chem, the all-wheel drive FF 91 is capable of achieving 51% to a full charge in fewer than 4.5 hrs at 240V.

“Peak motor power is 783 kW, equating to 1050 HP, delivering a record-breaking 0-60 mph time of 2.39 seconds.”

Built on the company’s Variable Platform Architecture (VPA), the FF 91 is the perfect combination of racing performance, precision handling, and extreme comfort – all packed inside one high-tech luxury EV sedan. According to FF’s most recent press release, the FF 91’s proprietary VPA is a “flexible powertrain system featuring a monocoque vehicle structure in which the body and chassis are a single form.” Simply stated, this car has performance capabilities and an aerodynamic design beyond comprehension.

Recognizes Drivers as They Approach the Vehicle

There is only one-way to describe the technology that went into FF 91’s innovative design features: disruptive. The FF 91’s intuitive lighting system, for example, “improves safety by informing pedestrians and other drivers when the car is driving autonomously.” The seats offer massage, heating, and ventilation for cooling. FF 91’s panoramic roof includes smart dimming glass technology that according to its press release, “features PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) that gives passengers instant privacy and shade when users tap on the glass.”

“By design, the lighting system will improve safety by informing pedestrians and other drivers when FF 91 is driving autonomously.”

FF 91’s high-tech features, whether it’s the vehicle’s next-gen connectivity or its intelligent safety system, are impressive, to say the least. Partnering with global Internet company LeEco, Faraday Future created a luxury sedan that personalizes the driving experience. Called Arrival Interface, FF 91’s advanced facial recognition technology allows drivers to unlock the car without a key. It even gives drivers the ability to summon their car using the FFCTRL companion app. Intuitive enough to recognize moods, the Arrival Interface system adjusts music, temp, scent, content, even massage type to the driver’s emotional state.

Driverless Parking Feature

According to FF’s press release, “FF 91 will be the first production vehicle to feature retractable 3D LiDAR (autonomous driving) technology.” Part of a complex sensor system that includes 10 HD cameras, 13 long/short range radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, FF 91’s self-driving technology eliminates blind spots and corrects driving decisions. The sedan comes with a driverless parking feature; when activated, the FF 91 parks itself after the driver exited the vehicle.

With additional bells and whistles that include a live feed that merges all car mirrors into one single rearview display image and an app that can schedule pickups at specific times and locations, the FF 91 is poised to set the standard for all future autonomous driving vehicles.

With Tesla ahead of the autonomous driving game and in the process of building 500,000 Model 3 sedans, Faraday Future can sit back and perfect their technology prior to their estimated 2018 launch. If the company is able to transition from prototype to production and include all of its high-tech innovation described in its press release, it will revolutionize the electric car industry.
