After the recent arrest of the Jay Y. Lee, the Vice Chairman of Samsung, for making bribery and embezzlement, the company can still be led out from jail. Lee can meet with his lawyers any time he wants, which is a privilege taking the fact that he will stay incarcerated in the upcoming months. Apart from the lawyers, he can get 12 hour visit from whoever comes to see him. These may include also some executives from Samsung. They may use that time to give him a brief of what is happening at the company. But, Lee is not allowed to use any computer, or to have any documents that are brought to him.

The current situation is less than ideal for both Lee and the company’s affairs. The company is still not looking for a replacement of him, as they still are briefing him with news. According to a report from Reuters, the company has faith in Lee and believe that he will prove innocent on the court. With that, after the case is finished and if everything goes on the side of Lee, he will return to lead the company in the future.

The trial for Lee is set to be concluded in late May. Samsung can still seek for bail if anything goes out of their favor. If that happens, Lee could stay in jail until September, and that could bring to inconvenience to the dealings of the company. The company already suffered some radical changes, including an aggressive restructuring and an overhaul of their donation policies.
