'Budget' Nokia X2 is Microsoft's First Cell Phone

Microsoft has launched its first Android Phone, the Windows Phone-like Nokia X2. Nokia, now under the watch of Microsoft (be happy it is not called “Microsoft phone”!) an evolution from the original Nokia X series.

The new Windows X2 is dual-SIM. The device is larger than the original Xs, coming with larger 4.3" ClearBlack display, and of course, tad smarter than its three ho-hum predecessors were. The new device is the fourth of the series, and comes with an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex-A7 CPU and 1GB of RAM. Microsoft acquired Nokia this year, and as the first phone under the tutelage of the tech giant.

The device runs the Android Opens Source Project (AOSP) version of Android that does not include any Google services or apps.  The main screen is also loaded with Microsoft services including OneDrive, OneNote,, and Skype. Nokia services like HERE Maps are also present in place of their Google counterparts (source).

The X2 will go on sale globally in July, at the price of about Euro €99 (about US $133, about GBP £ 79.36 and INR 10, 100), without contract. The release date for the phone has yet to be announced but it is confirmed that the phone will be released in July.

The phone is just 129 grams and comes in bright orange, green, yellow, dark gray and / or white backings. The battery of the Nokia X2 is 1,800mAh capacity that assures 4 hours Internet browsing time on cellular network. Internal storage is 4GB paired with a microSD card slot for up to 32GB expansion.

The phone also comes with a custom Android launcher, which offers more task working functionality than the original Xs. It also has a free HERE Maps subscription for voice-guided navigation.

Other features of the Nokia X2: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and dual SIM card slots, a Home button, 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, and a front-facing camera for Skype calls.
