A couple of weeks ago we told you about the opening of the Art of the Brick: DC Super Heroes exhibition on the Southbank – well, if you can get enough of the brick and you’re willing to travel to Scandinavia, you’ll be pleased to know that the brick is getting a new home. And the amazing-looking Lego House is set to open in its homeland of Billund, Denmark at the end of the summer.

The Lego House has topped out and is headed towards completion with a grand opening date of 28th September 2017. Located near LEGO’s corporate campus, in the heart of Billund, Denmark, the ‘LEGO experience centre’ will provide young and old alike the chance to get up close to their favourite colourful construction toy like never before.

It’s estimated that the LEGO House will attract 250,000 guests a year, providing them with a variety of LEGO-themed activities within its 12,000 square metres, inviting visitors of all ages to play and unleash their creativity.

Naturally the design of the LEGO House has been inspired by the toy company’s iconic plastic form, consisting of 21 white brick-shaped structures stacked on top of one another and capped with a keystone block with the proportions as a 2×4 LEGO brick. Textured clay titles on the outside give the façade the illusion that it’s been constructed from actual LEGO bricks.

Expected to attract more tourism to the Billund area, the House will feature both paid and free attractions. Entry will be free to the 2,000-square-metre LEGO Square and its terraces, while visitors can also head to the LEGO store or grab a LEGO-themed meal at any of the complex’s three restaurants.

Paid experiences occur in four different coloured zones, each representing a different aspect of a child’s learning. Red-coloured spaces will stimulate creativity; Blue, cognitive skills; Green, social; and Yellow, emotional. There’ll also be an exhibit on the history of LEGO and a ‘Masterpiece Gallery’ featuring fan creations.
