Nearly every smartwatch on the market these days tracks how many calories you burn. The Matrix Powerwatch takes things one step further by using your calories to power itself. Using thermoelectric technology, the MATRIX PowerWatch means you’ll never need to charge your smartwatch again.
The MATRIX PowerWatch is the world’s first smartwatch that you’ll never have to charge. Powered by your natural body heat, it measures calories burned, activity level, and sleep using our advanced thermoelectric technology. It’s the only smartwatch to feature a power meter that displays how much electrical power you’re generating.
It might sound like farfetched technology – and until we’ve tested it we can’t really give a definitive thumbs up – but it does seem to us that the logic is tight. After all, your body turns the calories you consume into heat. It seems fairly reasonable to claim that a watch can use thermoelectric technology to charge.
As well as monitoring your calories, the PowerWatch also counts steps taken and sleep quality at a glance. The watch features a physical button which is pressed to scroll through its other applications like a timer and stopwatch. When you take the PowerWatch off, your data is stored in its memory and it goes to sleep; put it back on and the watch turns back on right where you left it.
Made from a rugged aircraft-grade aluminium, this smartwatch also wirelessly syncs with your smartphone, automatically adjusting the time zone. It also has changeable watch faces, supports Apple Healthkit and Google Fit, and is water resistant to 50 meters – perfect for swimming.
While we love it, we’re pretty certain even the most ardent Apple Watch fan will concede the Watch’s one major design flaw is its battery (just 18 hours of life). But Apple aren’t alone with the majority of watches on the market needing to be charged daily. Which is why we think the PowerWatch could have some legs…
You can get hold of a MATRIX PowerWatch by heading over to their Indiegogo Website where they’ve already beaten their target with two months left of backing. Priced at around the £90 ($119), deliveries are expected in July 2017.
