After getting my PS5 console, I thought it would be a great idea to test it with a couple of different monitors we have on the market, monitors that we have probably tried out previously for their suitability for gaming and work, while also considering the cost of these monitors. I was able to come up with some that aren’t just the cheapest 120Hz monitors for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming, but also some of the best you can get your hands on.
Cheapest 120Hz Monitor For PS5, PS4 Pro and Xbox Series X Gaming
Lenovo L23i-18 – Best 120 Hertz 1920×1080 Monitor
This is a list of the cheapest, so I’ll try to arrange this list in the order of pricing. The Lenovo L23i-18 is the cheapest 120Hz monitor for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming we have on this list. It passes our gaming test, although not on many levels, hence we wouldn’t recommend this for people who are into regular or advanced gaming. We would recommend it, though, for anyone who needs a monitor that can double as both a work machine and a gaming screen.
The near-frameless design of the display remains one of the most standout features for us. This slim design ensures that it can fit into pretty much any desk space you have, and you can have it as part of a multi-monitor setup as the bezels are very thin. The Lenovo L23i-18 comes with a 23 inches display with a 1920 X 1080 pixels FHD IPS display. We didn’t notice any real color distortions, while its 4ms response time ensures that the average user notices little to no ghosting. We noticed some ghosting when playing games with high FPS though.
If there are any downsides to this monitor, it would be that it doesn’t have any features that support mounting, so you won’t be able to have this hung on a wall. While we liked that it was lightweight on arrival, it didn’t come with the HDMI cord that we were promised, so we had to pay an extra $40 to get a good HDMI cord.
We will not recommend this monitor if you plan to game extensively. But if you need a monitor for light gaming, one that can do some work tasks, under $300, then we will recommend the Lenovo L23i-18.
Acer Predator XB273K – Best 4K 120Hz Monitor For Gaming on Xbox Series X and PS5
When it comes to its performance in gaming, the quality of the color, and its speed, the Acer Predator XB273K has no compromises. This monitor comes with an Ultra HD display, and a 4K resolution. You get an IPS panel that supports overclocking this 120Hz monitor to 144Hz, giving you one of the fastest gaming monitors you can imagine.
The Acer Predator XB273K is also G-SYNC compatible, so your gaming is smoother and the colors are better. Still, on the display, the 27 inches Acer Predator XB273K comes with a 3840 X 2160 pixels resolution, you get two display ports that will come in handy for overclocking. You get better contrasts and brightness with its DisplayHDR 400 feature. Other ports you get on this monitor (including the two Display Ports) are two HDMI V2 ports and four USB 3.0 ports while we got a USB cable and the Display Port cable out-of-the-box.
There are 3 different variants of the Acer Predator XB273K gaming monitor, the Pbmiphzx is the one with the Actual G-Sync Module, the Sbmiprzx also comes with the G-Sync module even though it’s a refresh of the original model, while the Gpbmiipprzx (the one we tested) is the budget variant of all three.
I moved from using a 1440p 144Hz TN panel to this monitor for some time, and I can tell that this is leagues better. No one who has had a taste of 4K has ever gone back. Since it’s also an IPS panel, you get improved color accuracy and image quality when compared to other TN panels.
There are some things we didn’t like about this monitor, which is something we feel strongly about and even think should be considered before we make a decision. The HDR has been locked at 100% brightness, so using the monitor at night can be discomforting as it remains very sharp even when you use the night mode. Occasionally, we experienced a black screen, one that looked like flickering, and the only way to fix these being a change in the refresh rate of the monitor or restarting the G-Sync.
ASUS ROG Strix XG43VQ – Best 120Hz Gaming Monitor for PS5
The ASUS ROG Strix XG43VQ is another cool one among our cheapest 120Hz monitors for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming.
If a large display is on your to-get list for a budget gaming monitor, this 43 inches 120Hz ASUS ROG Strix XG43VQ gaming monitor is surely one that you should consider getting your hands on. This monitor comes with 3840 X 1200 pixels resolution, it’s a super ultra-wide HDR monitor, and so gaming visuals are noticeably smoother.
You’ll be getting an 1800R curvature on this gaming monitor, so gaming and other on-screen experiences get even more immersive. The ASUS ROG Strix XG43VQ also comes with a Show Boost feature that clarifies dark areas of the games while not exposing too much of the brighter areas, a feature that makes it a great monitor for other entertainment demands like watching movies.

Our impression was that this monitor was well-packaged, there are no dead pixels, and using it with our GeForce GTX 2060 was seamless. We were able to push it to the limits with our action games, high fps games like racing and ArmA 3. The one thing we hated it for was the build quality. The case is plastic, there was some backlight bleed, and the screen has these annoying flickers.

Asus ROG Strix XG438Q – Best Budget Gaming Monitor for PS5
This monitor also passes as one of the cheapest 120Hz monitors for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming that we find on the market. Our Asus ROG Strix XG438Q has a bit of history, mainly for being one we got out of a desire to upgrade simply to a bigger screen. We used to play PS4 Pro with the 27 inches Asus ROG monitor, and while it performed well on many levels, we wanted something larger, hence the need for the ROG Strix XG438Q.
Not too long after purchasing this did we see the launch of the PS5 gaming console, and right away, we excitedly wanted to try out the new gaming console on the monitor, and it sure outperformed on many levels. Another factor that made us upgrade to the ROG Strix XG438Q was the need for not only a larger screen, but better performance and an improved overall gaming experience, and I must say that this monitor has failed us, neither on our PS4 Pro nor on our PS5 console.
Overall, playing of games like COD, Battlefield, and Apex Legends was smooth, and the ROG Strix XG438Q has been a good performer overall, hence its inclusion in this list of the cheapest 120Hz monitors for PS5, PS4 Pro, and Xbox Series X gaming.
This monitor is a 43 inches 4K 120Hz non-glare gaming monitor, which beats many of the options we had on the market hands down. On the connectivity front, it comes with three HDMI ports, one earphone jack, two USB PORTS, a VESA 100X100mm mounting compatibility for users who love the idea of having the monitor hung on a wall, coupled with a pair of 10W speakers that deliver immersive sound and audio effects in-game.
We also appreciated that it wasn’t too heavy at 31.3 lbs. it comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3840 X 2160 pixels.
We felt that the black color reproduction of this monitor could do with some improvements because while gaming performed well, I haven’t really been able to watch movies with the monitor. So while it’s a good budget 120Hz monitor for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming, it just isn’t the best if you plan to use the monitor for general entertainment.

Alienware AW3420DW – Cheap 120Hz Monitor For Gaming
Alienware machines are a familiar sight in the world of computer gaming, and just as we never fail to admire Alienware laptops enough to want to write about them, Alienware gaming monitors are also worth considering, especially when you’re on the lookout for the cheapest 120Hz monitors for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming.
Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the Alienware AW3420DW was nothing short of amazing. From the fact that the graphics were top-notch to the sleek color reproduction. The Alienware AW3420DW comes with a new IPS NANO color tech with 98% DCI-P3 color coverage, so the colors are just the way the game creators designed them to be.
The Alienware AW3420DW comes with a curvature that’s clocked at 1900R, with a 21:9 width that maximizes the field of view, ensuring that the viewing experience is both consistent and even. This is miles better than the LG ultra-gear IPS panel I used some time back that had not as much curvature and even worse backlit bleeding.

Accompanied is the onboard lighting control feature and the software from Alienware, both ensuring that our settings and the RGB control are as seamless as possible.
This screen also comes with a 2ms response time with Overdrive and 120Hz refresh rate. You’d also be getting NVIDIA G-Sync Tech, a 3440 X 1440 resolution, and a 34 inches-wide display.
On some things we didn’t quite like about this monitor, it’s the fact that the Alien Fx software is quite buggy. Since we’d need this installed to control lighting and all, installing and uninstalling can be a pain in the ars.
Overall, if you need a monitor that is great for productivity, say work and creative purposes, one you can also use for regular gaming, the Alienware AW3420DW is one we will recommend. It delivers an immersive experience, the image and color quality are perfect, great for gaming and video/photo editing, and the build quality gets a pass from us.

Samsung LC49RG90SSNXZA – Good Cheap 120Hz Refresh Rate Monitor
Can we even test and create a list of great gaming laptops without mention of the Samsung LC49RG90SSNXZA? The Samsung LC49RG90SSNXZA comes with an AMD Radeon FreeSync2 that ensures that the gameplay is as smooth as possible, and you’re able to play HDR content effortlessly. We noticed a visible improvement in input latency when we switched to this monitor.
The Samsung LC49RG90SSNXZA also comes with a dual QHD Resolution of 5120 X 1440 which makes it possible to view content in as much detail as possible as the display is ultra-wide. We love the picture-by-picture feature that makes it possible to connect two or more different sources to the monitor and view these alongside each other. This feature was especially nice when we needed it for both work and entertainment needs.
If you use your monitor in a low-light environment often, the Eye Saver Mode ensures that the blue light emissions are reduced, and we can’t help but appreciate the Flicker-Free tech that minimizes distractions.

We connected devices like laptops, PCs, desktop computers, Mac and MacBook Pros, Xbox, PS4 Pro, and PS5, and this 49 inches 120Hz monitor was up-to-par.
On some things that we felt the monitor could be better on, there was a significant amount of deal pixels, way beyond what we would expect of a screen in this price range. Inverse ghosting was also a problem that we noticed on the monitor.
Which would we recommend? The monitor that we can happily recommend from the monitors that made it to this list of the cheapest 120Hz monitors for PS5 and Xbox Series X gaming is the Asus ROG Strix XG438Q as it passes on all the important levels, from price to specs and the quality of the build and gameplay.
