Tags: roku amazon gtgt

Some Roku users have reported the Amazon Prime video not working on Roku issue. For some, it happened after an update, while others experienced it out of the blue. Although not so common, it can be really frustrating to experience this issue especially when you already have great plans for the day or evening. It’s worse when you planned a stay-home date to Prime and Chill (not Netflix and Chill) and this happens.

For some, Amazon Prime Video works just fine through Blu Ray or when connected to a smart TV but will not on Roku. The good news is, you can try some troubleshooting steps to fix the Amazon prime video not working on Roku error.

Working Fixes for Amazon Prime Video Not Working On Roku

Fixing the Amazon Prime not working on Roku issue could take as little as restarting Roku. This will clear any bugs or errors that can be responsible for this issue. If that does not work, you can try the following.

Fix 1: Check for Updates

Check for any updates on both the Roku software and Prime video app. If there is a need to update them, do so. After installing them, relaunch and check to see if the issue persists.

For Roku, go to Settings from Roku’s Home screen. Then, select System Update >> Check Now. If it is out of date, Roku player will update itself.

For Prime Video, first, exit the prime video channel. Next, navigate and open the Roku channel store, then exit it. Exiting it will push the prime video channel to update. You should get a message saying Updating Prime Video. Wait for it to finish updating, then relaunch the channel.

Fix 2: Reinstall Prime Video on Roku

Uninstall the channel >> turn off Roku TV and leave for a few minutes >> turn it back on, reinstall the channel, and check. It’s that simple in writing.

Or you can uninstall prime video, reinstall it, turn off the TV, unplug the TV from the power source, wait some minutes, plug it back in, and re-log into your prime video account

To remove the prime video channel from Roku, do the following for Roku 2 and earlier:

  • Select Channel Store from Roku’s home screen
  • Navigate to the My Channel category and select the Prime Video channel
  • Select remove channel and click yes in the confirmation dialog box to confirm the removal

For Roku 3 and later;

  • Highlight the Prime Video channel using the up/down/left/right buttons on your remote control from Roku’s home screen
  • Then press the Action button which looks like an asterisk (*) and select Remove channel
  • Select Remove from the confirmation dialog box to confirm the removal.

After removing the channel, restart your Roku device, re-install the Prime Video channel and see if the issue persists.

Fix 3: De-register and Re-register Your Roku Device

For some, all it took after reinstalling the app was re-registering their Roku device with Amazon. A few deregistered their Roku device after uninstalling and before reinstalling. They removed prime video channel >> restarted Roku >> logged in to their amazon prime account using a different device >> went to device manager >> de-registered all Roku devices, then signed out.

After trying the above, you can now go back to Roku and add the prime channel. You will be asked to register your device and be given a code. Enter the code at amazon.com/mytv login and your prime video will most likely start working after this.
