Apple is introducing Voice Recognition on Siri on the new Apple TV.

This week, the company released the beta of the iOS 16.2 software for developers as well as tvOS 16.2 beta and for the first time, Apple is adding multi-user voice recognition for Siri.

With the new update, users will be shown a Siri window and asked whether they want to opt into voice recognition via Siri. If they do, Apple will then identifies the voices of different people and offer personal recommendations. The feature is already offered as part of HomePod, but this is the first time that the technology is moving across to tvOS.

When users opt-in and use Siri, they’ll be shown their own profile and Siri can recommend songs, TV shows, and other content. tvOS will even associate the voice profile with iPhones to automatically identify who is speaking with their Siri remote control, a convenient feature.

Earlier this year, Apple overhauled Siri on tvOS. Speaking of the update, Apple said: “Siri on Apple TV features a complete redesign, and will be able to recognize each user’s voice, so they can easily access their movies, shows, music, games, and apps, and pick up where they left off.

“By using the Siri Remote and asking “What should I watch?” users can get tailored recommendations. The more compact design of Siri on Apple TV allows users to quickly view results without leaving the action onscreen.”

We don’t know when Apple will release tvOS 16.2 just yet, but the chances are that it will come alongside iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, both scheduled to be released before 2023.
