Rumors of an always-on display have been seemingly confirmed, according to a new Xcode 14 beta.
Apple is planning to release a new always-on display option similar to the Apple Watch for its iPhone 14 Pro models, and hints have now been found in the latest Xcode 14 beta. Steve Moser reported the news on Twitter, showing off a Lock Screen interface that removes detail from on-screen widgets as the screen wakes. The animation suggests that the more detailed aspects of widgets will be removed, allowing for an always-on, low-powered display option for instant visibility.

A new black and white version of a widget has also been found, suggesting that Apple could limit the new feature to black and white mode to reduce power usage. That’s on top of news in the latest iOS 16 beta, which references a ‘Sleep’ state for wallpapers which are darker and fade out bright colors.
Apple is expected to introduce the feature on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but not the cheaper iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. Other expected changes include a new camera rig and a pill-like replacement for the notch, again limited to the two Pro models to differentiate between them.
