iPadOS 16 won’t be released until October

Apple is reportedly delaying the launch of Ipados 16.

The Cupertino company typically releases iPadOS updates alongside iOS updates, but this year, the company is holding the tablet software back a while longer.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is still facing challenges with bugs for its new Stage Manager feature, which allows users to enjoy a multi-window multitasking experience on their device.

It’s one of the hard-hitting updates of this year’s release, adding much-welcomed functionality enhancements that will make the iPad even more attractive.

Stage Manager, which will only work on M1 iPad Pro and iPad Air models, is set to be one of the most prominent features coming to the iPad in many years, as it gives users more control over their windows and allows them to effortlessly jump between different tabs and apps, much like they can do on their Macs.

By delaying the update launch, Apple will be able to spend more time polishing iOS 16 and then shift focus to iPadOS 16 to ensure both releases are seamless. It’s unknown whether this will have a knock-on effect on macOS.

Apple forked iOS and iPadOS back in 2019, and until now, the updates have typically been released together. This delayed launch marks a departure from the typical release schedule but could work in consumers’ favor, reducing the amount of on-release bugs. It could also be that Apple’s holding back the release to premiere new iPads this October.
