Apple acquires new San Diego hub

Apple has acquired the Rancho Vista Corporate Center in San Diego to expand its work in the region.

The company wants to increase its hardware and software engineering facilities in the area, having previously committed to hiring 1,200 people in the area by the end of 2022.

Back in 2019, Apple said it hoped to establish a campus in San Diego, and since then, it’s been leasing buildings in Rancho Bernardo – now, it’s acquired the Rancho Vista Corporate Center for $445 million for a permanent hub.

As reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune, it’s Apple’s first commercial property purchase in the region and will help the company boost hiring in the area by up to 5,000.

Speaking of the news, a spokesperson for Apple told the Union-Tribune that it had been “part of the community in San Diego for more than two decades” and was “thrilled to continue investing here as we expand our world-class teams.”

Back in 2019, Apple said it was committed to recruiting both hardware and software positions in the area, and it’s now been revealed on Apple’s jobs website that it’s looking for talent across software and data science, so it could prove that the new San Diego Hub becomes a software base.

The Rancho Vista Corporate Center was previously a hub for Hewlett Packard.
