Exciting gadgets unveiled at CES 2018

At CES 2018 we saw everything from self-driving cars to foldable TVs and while this year’s show has been deemed slightly less exciting than previous years, with fewer new releases, there was still enough exciting new technology to get any tech lover excited. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite releases at the show, from the revolutionary to the downright strange.

Voice controlled shower system

HomeKit has been taken to a whole new level with a brand new feature revealed at CES 2018. Kohler’s Sensate faucet means HomeKit can now be used with Siri voice commands to turn a tap on or off, or to dispense set amounts of liquid. But that’s not all. Moen has introduced the ‘U by Moen’ shower system which allows you to use voice commands to start your shower and select pre-set temperature choices.

A personal language translator

Travis the Translator is the closest we have seen to a real-time Language translator. This portable device is the size of a mobile phone and is able to translate 80 languages with a SIM card or WiFi connection. All you need to do is tap the touchpad, pick the language to translate from and to, and tap the arrow. Simply speak normally and listen as you are translated into a different language. If this works as well as it claims, it could be revolutionary.

A handheld food, money and pill scanner

The LinkSquare is a handheld scanner that can tell if meat is rotten, whether alcohol is fake, whether you are carrying fake money and if prescription pills are not what they say they are. This is a must-have for anyone who has ever experience food poisoning. This gadget is still a little pricey at $299, but it could be worth the investment.

A laptop case that charges your device on the go

We’ve all got our hands on a portable charger for our mobile phones but now there’s one for your laptop too, built into a protective sleeve. Incase’s new IconConnected Power Sleeve fits Apple’s 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro models and comes complete with a 14,000 mAh battery and a USB-C port for charging on the go. You can even charge your other devices too with the USB-A port.

A bike that fits into our rucksack

According to Smacircle, they have built the world’s most compact and lightweight eBike. This bike weighs only 15 pounds and can be folded into your backpack and locked from your phone!
