A review of the Elephone U Pro 4G Smartphone
As the technology powering our smart devices gets smarter, so do our devices. With their virtual intelligence prowess, these devices have become our go-to choice to remain functional. And as more and more people get on the smart device bandwagon, there is enough room in the market for new players to foray and gain a footing. Names like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo that have crafted stellar success stories in a short span of time are a testament to it.
Riding in on the wave of ever-growing demand for smartphones, Elephone recently released two new smartphones in the same line to the market – the Elephone U smartphone and the Elephone U Pro phablet. The two devices are strikingly similar in their specs, features, looks and appeal, and functionality. Here we are going to review the Elephone U Pro phablet to see if the device lives up to the hype being generated around it:
Elephone U Pro’s Design
The Elephone U Pro is hands down one of the most good-looking smartphones in the market right now. The phablet comes with a glass mix body riding on an aluminum frame, and a bezel-less display that adds to its stellar appeal. Yes, bezel-less display has been the buzz word in the mobile industry for 2018, however, compared to some of the other borderless devices in the market currently, the U Pro definitely takes the cake in nailing the loss of bezels in a manner that it enhances the overall look and feel of the device and at the same time adds to its functionality.
This has been achieved through the inclusion of bent edges in the screen design, which creates a heightened illusion of holding a piece of uninterrupted display in your hands. The only space on the screen that has some amount of bordering is the top where the front camera, light sensors, and earpiece are housed. The bottom bezel is kept blank. Since the U Pro is a phablet with dimensions larger than that os a standard handset, you get almost 6 inches of screen space without the device feeling too bulky in your hands.
The U Pro is a sleek device for its segment, measuring 154×72.5×8.4 mm and weighing a mere 166 g. It uses the premium Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and is available in two color variant – Blue and Black. All physical keys have been placed on the right.
U Pro’s Display
The 6-inch screen on the Elephone U Pro sports a Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and a pixel density of 403 PPI, which work well together to massively improve the screen’s clarity. Like the Elephone U, the U Pro also uses an AMOLED screen panel and offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. This coupled with the 83% screen-to-body ration makes for a super large viewing experience. Taking the multi-touch input feature to a whole new level, the U Pro allows for up to 10 fingers to be accommodated for inputs.
Elephone U Pro Specs
The Elephone U Pro is as robust in terms of its specs as it is in looks. The device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC chipset and is fired up by 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 1500MHz of ROM 128GB. There is also the usual provision of expanding the storage space by up to 128 GB with a MicroSD card. Another powerhouse inclusion in the U Pro is the – core Kryo CPU capable of clocking a maximum max speed of 2.2GHz.
The processor uses the 14nm process technology and 64-bit architecture to offer a quick speed of operations. Similarly, the graphics on this phablet are centered on the advanced Qualcomm Adreno 512 GPU. As opposed to the Elephone U that runs on Android Nougat v7.1, the U Pro uses the most advanced version of the OS and is powered by Oreo 8.0.
All these specifications point toward one conclusion that the Elephone U Pro is a device built to run without lags or interruption, even when you are running multiple apps simultaneously or indulging in some high-action gaming.
In terms of sensors too, the Elephone U Pro 4G phablet pushes the envelope and includes an accelerometer, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor in addition to a fingerprint sensor. It comes with a 3,550 mAh Li-Poly battery that offers a standby time of a whopping 289 hours and close to 15 hours on runtime even with heavy usage, on a full charge. And getting the battery tanked up is quick and hassle-free, as the U Pro uses the Qualcomm Quick Charging technology to offer fast charging capabilities.
On the connectivity front, the Elephone supports all modern features such as WiFi, GPS, Hotspot, USB Type C, and Bluetooth v5.0. It is also compatible with 2G, 3G, and 4G cellular networks.
The Elephone U Pro also takes into account the need for social media worthy pictures and addresses this with the inclusion of dual rear cameras – a 13 MP primary camera and another 13 MP sub-snapper for enhanced picture quality and effects, besides an 8 MP front camera for selfies and video calling. The inclusion of LED flash and auto-focus capabilities gives you high-resolution pictures, even when the ambient light is conducive for quality snapping.
The Elephone U Pro checks all boxes of being a phablet par excellence. To begin with, it is a device with an elegant yet sturdy design. It is hard to not fall in love the curves on the U Pro. The manufacturers have backed this good-looking device with enviable specifications that bolster its performance massively. The use of one of the most advanced chipsets, GPU, OS and abundant RAM, and storage capacity help the Elephone U Pro deliver on different needs of different users.
Be it playing games, listening to music, clicking pictures, using social media and internet or performing work-related tasks, the Elephone U Pro can do it all and do it effortlessly. The best part about this phablet is that it packs all these amazing features in a budget. The Elephone U Pro is priced at around $419, which is a steal for the range of functionalities and cutting-edge performance that this device is designed to offer.
