NVIDIA GeForce MX450: Is it Worth the Hype?

Every time a processor is launched, you find the brand showing off their benchmark numbers and comparisons. But are these numbers true?

Well, not exactly. As any brand does, chipmakers also tend to hype their product with eye-popping numbers to bring in more sales.

In most cases, these numbers aren’t exactly fake but the tests take place in ideal situations. For example, the laptop isn’t overheated. Plus, they have various developer tools.

Then there are those rare cases where they have been exaggerated to drive sales and are grossly misleading.

So where does the NVIDIA Geforce MX450 GPU stand?

Well, this graphics card was launched in 2020. And that time it received a 3DMark Fire Strike Graphics and Time Spy Graphics score of 7498 and 1677 points.

What’s eye-catching about this is that the Fire Strike is about 20-25% more than the GeForce GTX 1050 laptops. But in real-world testing, the processor flopped.

Tests showed it to be around 40% slower than that stated by NVIDIA. On the other hand, the Time Spy Graphics score still seemed reachable.

Retail models like the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 and Asus Zenbook 14 UX435EG were witin touching distance of the scores which means only the Fire Strike score was exaggerated.

NVIDIA has so far failed to respond to questions related to this. The only thing we’d like to say is that as a user, don’t expect the GeForce MX450 to run your games and programs any better than laptops that come with the GeForce GTX 1050.

Have you used the GeForce MX450. If yes, how has your experience been? Did you notice a performance boost? Let us know in the comments below.

And in case you haven’t yet used it and are geeks like us, run your tests and share the results to help other readers get a better understanding of it.
