The quality and inspiration truly cannot be beat! The kids still have most everything that has ever come from HearthSong and the ones they don’t were handed down to other children, still in amazing shape. Not because my kids are so gentle and kind with their possessions, but because they are just that well made. Little girl and her “babies” still hideaway in her girl version of the Indoor corner house tent. She also still enjoys her Fairy hideaway, used as a canopy over her "thrown".
 Admittedly, Ms. Ma’am probably gets the most benefit from my HearthSong guilty pleasures, because it’s also one of her favorite places to shop. She loves color, happy, and unique. She’s got a vivid and very child-like imagination and is of course a princess. So HearthSong speaks to her.

It came as no surprise when I asked her where she’d like to shop for the boys this year. I laughed and assumed that she would browse through and hand me her Christmas wishlist, but to my surprise she really did shop for her brothers….she did pick an item for herself from a partner store, but didn’t complain too loudly when I reminded her that she was shopping for her brothers (she doesn’t know that the goody she picked is hidden in my closet, more on that to come).

In addition to being a great place to shop for imaginative toys and games, HearthSong is all about social change and keeping children in the center of it all. HearthSong Heroes talk about improving the lives of other kids

When the Golf Pool Indoor Game (Putter-pool, pool that plays like golf) arrived and she immediately started asking to open it so she could “wrap it.” Ummm yea, have a turn at it, is more like it. I confess I’m a big kid at heart and secretly wanted to play it too. With my nephew visiting and the boys in school, neither of us took much convincing. Besides, I needed to figure out exactly where the boys were going to be setting it up when they play….right?

We were careful not to tear the packaging and very carefully took it from the carton. I took a picture of the contents so we could sneak it back into the box exactly the way it came out. We rationalized that the boys didn’t need to know that we had to measure and find the perfect playing spot (more like practiced before beating them during the first matchup).

It was so well packaged that to my game sneaking delight, putting it back the same way, was not going to be an issue. As far as a place to setup and play, all we did was shove the coffee table over to the other side of the game room.

Packaging is 3-4" thick and sightly longer than a standard interior door.

The game was easy to put together and ready to go in literally minutes. Simply roll out the green mat (on any indoor flat surface), which is similar the fabric found on a pool table top, velcro® the rails along the edges, and va-la! Pool done golf style!

We took turns shooting the balls into the pockets -- just like pool, only with the golf twist. Because my nephew has a few more golf skills than I do (I’ve never golfed, so a few is being generous), he thought he’d have the advantage. Little girl actually beat him squarely….it was my championship that surprised us all (including me)!

Talk about a fun game! It's a way to help kids build hand-eye coordination and strategy skills, but truly one of those games that everyone gets into playing. We lost track of time and didn’t realize it until about 10 minutes before my oldest son was to be home (I panicked a bit, I just knew he was going to catch us playing with his Christmas present!).  It took us even less time to put it back in the box (in the same way it had come out) than it did to set up. We were stowing it away just as we heard my son saying good-bye to his friends…whew!

My nephew is still here and we are considering one more matchup before we wrap it, just in case we need to find a better spot to play ;0)

The boys both love golf and pool so it’s the perfect game for them both and since Ms. Ma’am and I have a little pre-reveal practice under our belts, we’re totally ready for an in-door day with the boys!
