Hi loves! How’s your weekend? Or how was your entire week, rather? Mine… Ugh.. HATE IT! Let me give you a tiny update (or rant, if I may). My laptop crashed multiple times last week so I decided to finally reformat it. But apparently something’s wrong with my BIOS or whatever, so I had to really bring it to a professional. They were able to fix the problem. I was able to back up all of my videos BUT! I failed to back up my 2016 blog photos. This includes all of the product shots that I did even from last year that I was planning to blog about. I was so sure I backed up all of my files that all I ended up were the files in my memory card. And that’s not too much. I was so pissed at my laptop that I didn’t even double check Gggrrr.. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk. I just have to retake all of those photos double time and blog them for real this time.
Anyhoo, let’s move on and blog/review what I have here in my files so far. (that sounded weird but whatevz..) And sorry about that little rant.
A couple of months ago, Kathleen Lights released another collaboration with Colourpop Cosmetics. It’s the much awaited part two of the best seller Colourpop Lippie Stix in Lumiere. I’ve been waiting to get this for quite some time and luckily my friend got a hold of it for me. Here are my thoughts so far.
Product Details according to their website:
Meet Lumière’s new sister!
Yes, it is that short. BUT, I do have a review of the Lumiere Lippie Stix here.
Packaging’s very simple and direct to the point. The liquid lipstick is housed in a clear tube with a silver cap. It also comes with a doe-foot applicator, making it easy to spread the product evenly and reach the corners of your lips.
Lumiere 2 is indeed quite identical to the original Lumiere. However, I find this a bit more mauvey than the previous one. It’s more cool-toned and the shade is a bit darker than the first Lumiere. I’ll get to the comparison later.
Lumiere 2 is very easy to apply with its doe foot applicator. It’s very pigmented and it glides on smoothly with just a single application. It’s also very opaque and due to Colourpop’s new formula, it doesn’t settle on to the dry parts of my lips compared to the shades that were released when this line was launched.
I’ve had Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips since they first launched and I’ve used both the older and the newer versions. To be quite honest, I wasn’t really a fan of their older formula, they made my lips really dry and chappy. I know that it’s common with these types of lip products but it’s different with Colourpop. If you have severely dry lips, the older formula of Colourpop’s Ultra Matte lips can make it worse. Then they changed their formula, it wasn’t as drying. I still prime my lips with a lip balm but I don’t find myself wanting to change my lipstick at the end of the day.
I find the texture of this still identical to the previous version. It’s just the formula that’s different. It’s very opaque and a single layer can entirely cover your lips. This lasted on me for more than four hours and I didn’t notice any flaking, etc by the end of the day. It faded on me from the inside, of course but when it comes to retouching, I didn’t encounter any issues.
Now on to the question, what’s the different between this and the original Lumiere?
@KathleenLights describes the original Lumiere as ‘a dusty, mauve, pink in a matte finish’ while Colourpop describes Lumiere 2 as ‘Lumiere’s sister’. I find the original Lumiere a bit more warmer, pinkish and lighter compared to this one. Lumiere 2 is also a tad bit deeper than the first one. This, according to KathleenLights was due to Lumiere 2’s different formula. Since the original was a matte lipstick and Lumiere 2 is a liquid matte, it wasn’t as easy coming up with a more identical shade. As for my personal comparison/opinion, I prefer Lumiere 2 and I liked their take on the shade. It’s still very wearable and it’s still in the same color family. I love Lumiere but I’m a fan of these shades as well. It has an edgier feel to it due it’s cool undertone. You can wear it during the day time but you can rock it during your night outs as well
Above are a couple of lip products that I swatched which I think are somehow similar to Lumiere and Lumiere 2. As you can see, Lumiere 2 is a tad deeper, and a bit more mauvey than the original Lumiere. Trap is also a good dupe, but Trap oxidizes and turns to grey overtime. Matte in Detail’s Rhea, however, is a bit more pinkish.
So those are all of my thoughts regarding Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips in Lumiere 2. I really like this so far and I think Colourpop’s new formula is definitely a winner compared to their former one. Of course, if you have severely dry lips, then I suggest you still prime your lips with a good, hydrating lip balm.
