Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples and lovers. It’s a day where anyone can express sentiment for anyone else. Children like to give to their friends and even their family members, including parents. The best time to teach that it’s the sentiment or thought that counts as opposed to the gift is in early childhood. Coloring and other crafts are a terrific way to encourage creativity and imagination, and they also encourage fine motor skills and concentration. This DIY project shows step-by-step instructions on how to make a Valentine’s Day themed Crayon Organizer. Because this particular craft uses an old tin can, it is budget friendly and it encourages upcycling. Let’s get started!

The materials needed for this craft are:

• a clean tin can
• white and red acrylic paint
• paint brush
• ½ cm. in wide red satin ribbon
• hot glue gun and glue sticks

Step 1. Write the word LOVE on the outer wall of the tin can. You can write in any fashion that you prefer – horizontally, vertically, zigzagged, etc. Let the glue dry and harden for a while before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2. Paint the wall of the tin can with white acrylic paint.

Step 3. Paint the red acrylic paint starting from the bottom of the tin can all the way up in the middle while the white acrylic paint is still wet. You have to blend the red to the white paint one your reach the middle part of the tin can. This includes the LOVE word that is already embossed to the tin can itself.

Step 4. Let the paint dry for an hour of two.

Step 5. Wrap the red satin ribbon on the upper mouth of the tin can and use a hot glue gun to carefully line it with hot glue to permanently adhere it to the can.

Step 6. Place your crayons on your new LOVE crayon organizer!
