The Science of Sleeping Skin: Night Creams for Fresh Faces

This post was written by Laura Gavin for closertolucy.com and fits within the regulations of my site.
There comes a point in a woman's life when a 'skincare routine' becomes an important part of the day. With a range of day creams, Night Creams, toners, cleansers and moisturizers available it can sometimes be difficult to navigate the world of healthy skin. While some women might think skin care is for more mature faces, many professionals suggest that women can begin using night creams as early as aged 25 to slow the effects of aging.
According to several dermatologists, regenerative creams work best at night as cellular activity is heightened between the hours of 2:00am and 4:00am. During this time skin actively attempts to recuperate from any damage it may have suffered and night creams work to enhance this activity. Products like Olay's Regenerist Night Cream blend function and branding by clearly stating the benefits right in the name. Night creams can range dramatically in price but many brands found at the local pharmacy are effective and affordable. When shopping for the perfect night cream, there are a few important things to consider.
Be sure the product specifies night time use
Some women might think that day and night creams are interchangeable, but this is simply not the case. Day creams offer things like SPF protection and moisturizing properties which are not particularly useful at night unless you have incredibly dry skin. Be sure to select a night-specific product that focuses on regeneration and repair as skin is much more receptive to these functions at night.
Select the right cream for your skin type
For dry skin, rich creamy textures offer moisturizing and restorative properties. Women with oily skin also require some degree of moisture to keep skin looking its best, but not nearly as much as dry skin. Be sure to source products that are specifically intended for oily skin; these are typically lighter creams that are intended for use a bit later on as oily skin naturally ages at a slower rate than other skin types.
Look at the Ingredients
Some creams might boast restorative properties but before you drop any money on pricey products, be sure to check the ingredients. Antioxidants like vitamin C Selenium, AHA fruit acids and glycolic acids are all popular ingredients in anti-ageing night creams and should ideally be used in small doses as larger quantities have the potential to irritate skin.
