SilkyGirl is a well known drugstore brand here in Asia. I’ve seen this makeup brand before in Singapore and from what I’ve read, you can also find them in certain countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. They have a wide range of face, eye, and lip products. You can check them out at their website and at their Instagram account (listed below). You remembered that I reviewed their matte lip colors and now they came up with the Moisture Boost Lip Color Balms. Below are my thoughts.
“Moisture Boost Lipcolor comes in a retractable pencil form with vitamins A, C, and E. Its perfect blend of oils ensure that your lips stay soft and supple. A balanced blend of luminous to provide your lips with a balm-like moisture. With 6 exciting shades to choose from for different occasions, every event in your life will be extra special.“
These lipcolor balms come in a black, chubby, retractable pen, which comes in sealed upon purchase. Each of them come with a printed sticker label at the bottom indicating the name of each Shade. Aside from that, the bottom of the tube actually shows you the color of each shade which is pretty accurate, if you ask me.
SilkyGirl Lipcolor Balms come in 6 different shades: from MLBB Shades, to pinks to bolder shades like red and wine. They have all the basic shades to complete your day time or night time look. They provide a really glossy finish due to their moisturizing properties and some of them are more opaque than the others. Here’s a video of me swatching all six shades.
Perfect nude MLBB shade.
Recently, I haven’t been a fan of really nude lips so when I saw this I initially thought I might not like this. But upon trying it on, turns out I was wrong. It’s one of the most opaque colors in the entire line. Despite it being lighter than my lips, it was able to conceal my highly pigmented lips therefore making it one of my favorite MLBB shades at the moment. It’s perfect for day to day use, when you really don’t want something heavy on your lips. I really love it.
Warm-toned pink shade.
When I read the word ‘Coral’, I initially thought that the shade will be too warm toned for my lips and I might not be able to like it. When I tried it, however, I found out that it looks really cute due to its pretty pink color. The shade makes me look younger and it can really brighten up my look. I highly recommend this to teenagers and young adults.
Classic warm-toned red.
This is also one of my favorites because it’s so pigmented and opaque to the point that you wouldn’t think that it’s a lipcolor balm due to it’s color payoff. Further, most red lipsticks are kind of hard to apply. It’s actually a given. However, due to the packaging of this one, and it’s formula, it’s really hard to mess up and if you do, it’s pretty easy to correct as well.
Subtle pink, MLBB shade
Similar to 01 Latte, this is also a pretty MLBB shade. This is one of my favorites and one I gravitate toward when I run errands. However, compared to Latte, this one’s not as opaque. I find that I need to apply a couple of layers more in order for the real color to show up.
Mid-tone orange shade
I’m not really fond of orange shades because it makes my teeth look yellow and I don’t like how it looks on me. I do make an exception for this one, though. This one’s not too opaque compared to the others and it’s not too bright. It blends well with my lips and it’s a bit more muted compared to the other orange lip colors that I’ve tried. However, as mentioned, it needs a couple of layers for the real color to show up so it’s not that opaque.
Deep Berry shade
I actually thought this would be vampy or dark due to its name but it’s more of a burgundy, berry shade. It’s very pretty. Reminds me of Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Smitten, only this is a bit darker, I believe. That was my favorite way, way back but it got expired. I’m glad that now I have a replacement.
What impresses me the most about this line aside from their moisturizing aspect is their rich color pay off. All of the shades are very pigmented they offer the same level of hydration on your lips. None of them are streaky or patchy upon application and by the time that they start wearing off, the darker shades leave a slight tint.
Since it’s still a lip balm no matter what, it does provide a glossy finish. And sometimes, the more layers you apply, the more likely it is to transfer wherever it becomes in contact with. Okay, now I sound like I’m describing something from a science fiction movie. But let me put it to you this way, due to its formula and consistency, longevity is definitely out of the question. It’s not transfer proof nor is it long lasting. It will fade once you eat or drink. Once, I ran an errand and it lasted on me for 1-2 hours max (by that time, I was thirsty and I had to drink something). The darker shade will leave a hint of color on your lips when they start to fade so if you want, you may start with those and build your collection from there.
Another thing to note is that they have a slight hint of fragrance. I can’t put my finger on it, but it smelled a bit waxy. It’s barely detectable though, unless you stick your nose onto the tube (which was exactly what I did) so it’s not really something that I find bothersome, at least for me. Further, if you’re not into scented makeup products, you’ll barely notice the scent, so I think you’ll still like this one.
All in all, I really love this new line from SilkyGirl and I wish they can come up with more colors. I would love to try more neutral, vampy and bright pink shades. As you already know, my favorite shades are 01 Latte, 04 Rose and 06 Wine. I love the others too, but those three are the ones that I gravitate the most. I am so happy that SilkyGirl is now more widely available in our country compared to the first time I did my review. And what’s more is that they’re a lot more available compared to other drugstore brands. Their products are definitely a steal!
