10 steps to clean and degrease your extractor hood

To find out if it’s time to clean your Hood, one trick is to press a sheet of paper towel under the hood in the kitchen before you let go: if it comes down, it’s time to clean it in 10 steps:

1) To facilitate cleaning, operate the hood and put a pan of water to boil with the juice of a lemon. Bring to a boil and wait several minutes, this will make it easier for you to continue extractor cleaning.

2) Prepare a large basin of very hot (or boiling) water with a dose of laundry identical to that used for the washing machine. Mix the water and laundry well by hand after putting on gloves. The alternative is to add some washing-up liquid and baking soda to the hot water.

3) After disassembling the hood, immerse the detached elements (filters, etc.) in the basin and soak the elements of the hood for half an hour.

4) Scrub the parts of the hood one by one with a soft brush or a non-abrasive sponge so that they do not scratch.

5) Rinse the parts of the hood cleaned with hot water.

6) Dry the filters in the open air or with a clean cloth.

7) For areas of the hood that do not disassemble, clean them with a sponge soaked in hot water and washing up liquid or detergent. Start at the top of the hood and go down for easy cleaning.

8) Dry the inside of the hood with a clean cloth.

9) To shine your stainless steel hood, rub it with a cloth slightly moistened with edible oil, then wipe it well with paper towel to prevent dust glue thereafter.

10) Reassemble the hood and its various elements, and you’re done!

Warning: If the hood has a carbon filter and not a metal filter, the filter can not washed but it is replaced after every 4 months.
