By now, you have seen that I have a slight obsession with succulents. It’s no surprise that I also adore mini tin pail buckets. Even more, I love that I can get three of them for a dollar at the dollar tree. Today we are combining them again for a short and sweet tutorial for the kitchen! Rustic mini Succulent Magnets are perfect for gift giving, and giving fresh air to a stagnant kitchen!
Getting Started
To make these mini succulent Magnets, you will need a few supplies. Please note, there are affiliate links in this post. Supplies
3 pack of mini pail buckets at the Dollar Tree . (Seriously, for all the projects I have lined up and have already shown you, I recommend just ordering a case. )
Nail to poke holes (and a hammer)
dirt
succulents
magnets (Amazon: get them here)
E6000 Glue
Optional: jute twine and cut out burlap ribbon, These took my mini succulent magnets from adorable to giggle-worthy. I used this set and I love love love it so much!
Mini Succulent Magnet Making
Whew… say that ten times fast! Down to business. To begin, poke some drainage holes in the bottom of your pails. I have found that the simplest way to do so is with a screw or nail and hammer and tap until the head pokes through. You do not want gaping holes, but enough so your succulents do not sit in pooling water.
Decorate Your Mini Succulent Magnets
I love that these little pail buckets are so useful! So far, I have made rain chains and another version of a succulent planter with them in the past, and they both are now some of my garden favorites. I highly encourage you to check them out when you are done with this!
If you choose to decorate your mini pails, now is the time to do that. For this project, I had a scrap piece of cut out burlap ribbon that was just big enough to fit around the bucket. I simply wrapped and glued this to the bucket and moved on to the next. Tightly wrap your jute twine around the bucket, stopping every so often to glue.
Planting Some Beauty
I love that there are so many different types of succulents and that they are so hardy. A spritz of water here, lots of sun, ba-da-bing-ba-da-boom!! Succulents have me looking like a regular Cisco! Just add dirt to half of the mini succulent magnets, and pat lightly. Add a few sprigs of your choice of succulents and a little more dirt to cover the roots.
Give each mini succulent magnet planter a little tap after you are done on the table to help things settle.
Finishing Touches
To finish off this project, you need to add your magnets. Because they are little I used three per planter, just to be safe. A little dab of E600 and you are about set. Just wait for dry time!
PRO TIP:
Do not use hot glue to attach the magnets to the mini buckets. Because both are a slick smooth surface, the glue will stick to neither. E600 takes a bit longer to dry, but rest assured that those magnets are bonded for life to that bucket!
Give A Little Giggle
I can not help but giggle every time I look at these mini succulent magnet planters! What I really liked about this project (aside from the obvious cuteness overload!) is that it took me less than an hour to put together all three of them!
