Why I Choose Colorado Springs

Deciding on a vacation destination is nerve-wracking and often times stressful. You want to make sure that there will be something for everyone to enjoy, and finding an area that caters to the entire family is the biggest chore. After hours of researching, Colorado Springs was the obvious winner.

~UPDATE: courtesy of VisitCOS.com, the cog rail will not be running in the foreseeable future, but does give some great alternatives! If you are looking for a senic rail ride, check out  Royal Gorge Route Railroad. Per the website, they provide Americas most spectacular rail journey.

My family loves fresh air. We love to be in the woods and among nature. The Garden Of The Gods is what sealed our fate. Aside from the stunning views year round, there are other fun things to do in the gardens. For example, you can learn about the new species of dinosaur, at the theophytalia-kerri exhibit.

Other Things To Do In Colorado Springs

Because some of my family is more adventurous than other parts of my family, I added rock climbing to the itinerary. It seems to me that if you are in rock country, you should at least enjoy it and climb them suckers! The Colorado Climbing Company has toured and guides right in Colorado Springs, and the bigger the crowd the better the price (good thing we go big or go home right?). These guys have a proven track record of putting safety first! Check them out when you book your trip!

If water is more your sport (like the other half of our family) then you must check out the rafting packages nearby. They range in price, and experience level. I searched for a bit and found one that you can take most of the family on, as long as they are at least 5 years old. Prices vary, but the package we found was for ages 6+ starting at $59 for a half day of rafting the Big Horn Sheep Canyon.

Planning Your Sleeping Arrangements

There is plenty of lodging within Colorado Springs, as well as nearby the surrounding areas. Yes, there are the traditional Hilton and Marriott, as well as a Best Western, but, there are also more authentic and memorable places to stay as well.

Camping in Colorado Springs
Instead of a fancy hotel, why not opt for a tent against nature for the night?

We found a cabin with Mountiandale Cabins and Rv Resort that will suit us fantastically. It is a little cabin in the woods, sleeps up to six and is under $200 a nights stay. Not that you need t.v. in the woods, but it also includes satellite cable.

Oh, the places you will go…

Before we found the cabin, the plan was to camp. Colorado is a beautiful area any time of year and camping amongst its beauty would have been a pleasure. Cheyenne Mountian State park allows camping year round, with 51 full hook up sites ($30) and 10 basic walk-up tent sites ($20). They offer showers, which are coin operated, and a little store with supplies.

Permanent Vacation Spot

After our visit, I have a feeling that we will want to make it our permanent vacation spot, with plans to move in the future. After looking at tons of sites to help newly moved or aspiring to do so, I found this website tool to help me make the best choice for finding Colorado Springs Real Estate easier.

Where Will You Go?

If Colorado Springs is not your next destination, where is? Have you been to the Garden Of Gods before? I would love to hear about your experience rock climbing or river rafting in this beautiful land. Bonus points for shared pictures!!
