How to Put Together The Best Science Kit

Slime, fizz, smoke. They all have one thing in common. Science. I have told you before how much I adore science week at the kid’s school. Well, it’s not that time yet, but here I am talking about more science. Today’s post is going to teach you what to put in a Science Kit to give as a Christmas gift. Bug is addicted to mixing ingredients together to come up with a new potion or slime recipe. I figured she needed her own science kit, as to stop her from using our dinner ingredients as science experiments.

Creating the perfect Science Kit doesnt have to be hard!

You know, I had to go as far as banning science experiments until after the holiday season, just to make sure I have enough flour and gelatin for my holiday baking needs. Bug, if you ever read this, it was never cool to run out of flour. Ever:) I will wake up every now and then to her, in the bathroom concocting some sort of experiment. And that is why today I am giving you my secret Christmas gift weapon:

The Greatest and Only Science Kit Ingredients You Will Ever Put Together.

The name of it could use some work, but what matters is that you can pick up these items for super cheap, and all of it is likely at your local supermarket.  Let’s start with the basics, shall we?

Basic Science Kit:

Salt

Flour

Sugar

Vinager

Gelatin

Food Coloring

Liquid Soap

Non Reactive Bowls

Seems kinda like a ton of things right? But everything found is also found in our local Dollar Tree! That’s $13 dollars including a super cute basket to put it all in! Want to get more creative? Let’s give you the extended version of that Science Kit.

Putting Together A Fancy Science Kit

In order to display and wow, find an awesome basket or box. Wooden boxes with lids keep everything dry and safe, just hold the lid to the side of the box with ribbon and a pretty bow.  Or, alternatively, you could wrap all of it in a huge box. This year’s science kit will be placed into a large tote and alongside all of the science ingredients will be a book to help guide her along. I have not decided on which, but the runners-up are:

Kitchen Science Lab For Kids 52 family-friendly science experiments from the pantry, by Liz Lee Heinecke. The book has great reviews on Amazon and is included in Prime Shipping.

Outdoor Science Lab- 52 Family Friendly Outdoor Science Experiments Another book by Liz Heinecke. This would make a wonderful addition to the first science experiment book and perfect for the science kit if you prefer that all messes be made outdoors. It too is also included in Prime Shipping!

My list wouldn’t be complete without an edible science book for this science kit. I found Edible Science: Experiments You Can Eat, by Jodi Wheeler-Toppen (Author),‎ Carol Tennant (Author).  It looks like something that bug would get for herself, so that is what I will most likely be ordering. And of course, its included in Prime.

A word of warning

If this is a gift for a child who does not live with you, a nice heads up for the parents will go along way. I love when educational meets gift, but this science kit will for sure bring in another factor: the mess. And you know how I feel about messes. I get all anxious and grumpy. But if I can plan ahead for them I feel a titch better.

Creating the perfect science kit doesnt have to be hard!
Pin me for later!

I would love to know how your science kit turned out and which book you choose! Do you have anything to add to my super long list of ingredients? Let me know in the comments below!

Untill next time,

Marlene
