Making Frosty’s Hat- Unique Winter Crafts

When I make something, I usually spend a ton of time looking at other peoples things that are similar to what I want to make. I have seen tons of coffee can’s turned into Frosty’s Hat, but the brim of the hat always looks off to me. This craft is as simple as they come, and makes a unique and one of a kind centerpiece with fresh live greens! Are you ready to make Frosty’s Hat?

In a few steps you will have your own centerpiece that is winter fresh all season!

To make Frosty’s Hat you will need a few supplies:

1 coffee can, large size, washed and dried with the label removed

1 grapevine wreath

Black satin ribbon

Puffy Paint

Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Fresh Greens such as Pine sprigs and Holly

1 small glittery bird

Burlap (for patch)

Florist Foam (optional)

Ribbon for a small bow

Mini Christmas decorations (or paint some old C9 lights for a unique look!)

Before I tell you the easy steps to making Frosty’s Hat, I have to tell you about The Ribbon Retreat. Have you ever shopped for ribbon thru them? The prices can not be beaten, and shipping is so quick. I picked up 500 yards (as if anyone needs 500 yards of satin ribbon) on clearance for less than 5 dollars. It’s totally worth it to purchase thru, and I highly recommend doing so.

Back To The Hat Business

Just wrap the ribbon starting at the top. Attach with a dot of hot glue

For the brim of Frosty’s Hat, you need to wrap the entire wreath in black ribbon. Secure the ends with a touch of hot glue. After your brim is done set aside. Next do the same thing for the coffee can, securing the ends of the ribbon with a touch of hot glue. Attach your glittery bird to the brim and let completely dry.

After the glue has fully dried on the coffee can and the wreath, you need to connect them to each other. The grapevine wreath is not level on all sides so make sure to turn the can and wreath to find the perfect fit. To secure down, use hot glue around the entire outside bottom side of the coffee can.

Make sure to get the glue in as many of the cracks in the grapevine wreath as you can.

Making Frosty’s Hat Pretty

After the hat has been secured to the brim, its time to pretty it up. Grab your burlap and cut out a star and glue that to the front of Frosty’s Hat. When that dries, take your puffy paint and paint little stitches on the burlap and the can.

All your hat needs now is a little puffy paint to add stitches!

Filling the top of the hat has got to be my favorite part! Depending where you live, you should take cuttings from the yard! I have fresh Pine, Fir, Juniper and Oregon Grape growing in my yard. Arrange your cuttings to look the way you want. If you are choosing to use foam first place it in the bottom of the can and then add the greens directly into the hat!

Frosty’s Hat, Not Just For Christmas

The best part of this centerpiece is that you don’t have to put it away at the same time you put away the tree. Frosty’s Hat will be the perfect addition to any winter home! Just be sure to change out the greens as they need to be tossed and replaced!

This beautifully handcrafted centerpiece is Frosty's Hat!

What do you think? If you are into making and selling crafts, this is a perfect craft for that. This Frosty’s Hat sold for a whopping 40 bucks! Will you be making Frost’s Hat for your table? I would love to see that!

Making Frosty's Hat is such a beautiful way to bring fresh greens into the house all winter long!

Until next time,

Marlene
