The House of Robert Timms | Australian Style Café Serving Gourmet Coffee

This heritage coffee brand is revealing 12 new menu mainstays – brunch, mains and light bites that are served throughout the day.

We tried a couple of dishes from the menu that are suitable for all-day dining.  Starting off with this Prawn Bisque with Truffle Infusion ($15) – the prawn bisque is flavourful with a hint of truffle fragrance but we recommend sharing this dish as it can get quite overwhelming.  The buttered toast is good for dipping but we would prefer if there is some acidity to cut through the richness.

You can also try the baby back ribs ($15.50) as a sharing dish – featuring baby back pork ribs confit, cayenne hot sauce, double mustard sauerkraut and straight-cut fries.  This is a dish that would go well with a bottle of ice-cold beer.  Speaking of which, House of Robert Timms also has a happy hour special, diners can enjoy bottled Australian beer specials at just $10 per bottle or a bucket of 6 bottles at $48!  This line-up includes Little Creatures Pale Ale, Pure Blonde, Victoria Bitter and James Squire Orchard Crush Cider.

Moving on to the mains, the star is undeniably their Aussie Wagyu Beef Burger ($28).  Although it is quite pricey for a burger, it gives you your money’s worth.  250grams of juicy house-made wagyu patty and sautéed Portobello mushroom is wedged between two slices of beautifully buttered brioche buns.  Not forgetting the slice of emmental cheese (if we have to nit-pick, we wish for the cheese to be teeny bit more melted), grilled onions and herb tomato sauce to complete the hearty burger.  All of these culminate to form a burger that would leave you feeling satisfied!  The accompanying garlic fries held their weight too with pronounced garlic flavour and retained their crispness even after being left out for some time.

The other main that we tried was the Octopus & Snapper Squid Ink Pasta ($25.50).  Earthy squid ink pasta is fried aglio olio style and served with sous vide octopus leg, snapper and cherry tomato.  We thought that the squid ink flavour was quite subtle but this is a dish that won’t leave you in a mess as crustacean oil is used instead of squid ink sauce.

We finished our meal with the Vanilla Panna Cotta ($15).  Seasonal fresh berries and strawberry coulis adorn the creamy panna cotta and the butter crumble provide the textural difference.
