Top 12 Places To Celebrate Chinese New Year 2018 Part II

Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant

Lou Hei to your hearts content at Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant this Chinese New Year! As the name suggests, this restaurant revolves 360 degrees in about a dinner sitting of about 1.5-2 hours. Don’t worry, you won’t feel as if you’re rotating and you’ll actually get to see the Harbour, VivoCity, and if you’re lucky, you might even get to catch the fireworks from Sentosa!

Indulge in their popular dishes such as the Bird Nest with Egg Whites, Pen Cai, and Beijing Duck Skin. The most interesting dish award has to go to the Bird Nest with Egg Whites as I’ve never heard of a savoury version of bird nest, and Prima really nailed it.

As for their Pen Cai, I loved how they used a soup base instead of the thick starchy ones we always have. This really made consuming Pen Cai less heavy, allowing you to really have countless bowls and not be sick of it.
Finish off with their soufflé dessert – a Chinese take on a donut, with red bean filling. You can choose to have this with sugar, but I felt eating it with the red bean itself was good enough as the red bean had a natural sweetness to it.

The Line at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore

In conjunction with the celebration of the Lunar New Year, The Line at Shangri-La has introduced Canton Fair Buffet Dinner with a selection of popular Canton dishes including dim sum, suckling pig, fried rice with baby abalone and more!

Apart from the popular Canton dishes, I got attracted to the seafood section including Boston lobster, sashimi, shell scallops and more! The Boston lobster was mildly salty, and the sweetness from the crustaceans was quite distinct. And if you’re lucky, you might found one that contained plenty of roe!

The live stations at The Line were quite popular. You can expect Signature Singapore laksa, prawn and chicken noodle soup.

And for our Indian friends, there are many types of curries and hot dishes to choose from!

Last but not least, you certainly can’t leave without satisfying your sweet tooth! The dessert section with an assortment of delicious pastries, cakes to savour and the gelato that you shouldn’t miss. Tried earl grey mousse after taking the longest time to decide. It is infused with Earl Grey tea; you’ll be able to smell the nice fragrance after the first bite from that dessert and adds a nice pop of flavour.

One of the highlights from Canton Fair Buffet Dinner is fried rice with baby abalone. Fried rice can be a meal by itself and is usually served as one of the dishes at the buffet restaurant. The fried rice was little dry probably left out too long as we were busy taking photos.

Canton Fair is available until 28 Feb 2018 from 6PM to 10PM.

Ellenborough Market Cafe – Swissotel Merchant Court

I recommend all to come here with a huge appetite and empty stomachs as you will surely want to try a bit of everything once you see the buffet spread. This Chinese New Year, Ellenborough Market Cafe welcomes a number of CNY dishes including Hong Kong Style Steamed Garoupa, Stir-fried Asparagus with Scallop in XO Sauce and Stewed Dried Oyster with Black Moss in Tianjin Cabbage, Chicken, Char Siew, Duck and Pork Belly from the roast station.

My favourite dish from Ellenborough Market Cafe; Braised Abalone and Sea Cucumber with Australian Broccoli. When the centre of the sea cucumber was soft and giving, and the surface was slippery. I can’t help myself but have more servings.

This dish is part of Menu B at S$988.00++ per table of 10.

The saying that goes with one of the Chinese New Year wishes is “nian nian you yu,” which means “may the year bring prosperity.” We definitely can’t miss the fish. Fried Garoupa was presented in Hong Kong style, fish meat was tender and smooth with a delicate sauce and not overpowering. You can still taste the fish sweetness and it doesn’t mask the true flavour of the fish.

Who doesn’t love X.O. sauce!? This is one of my most beloved sauces. These savoury and juicy Japanese scallops go perfectly with the crunchy asparagus, which helps to balance out the dish. Wok-fried asparagus with scallop in XO sauce is part of the buffet spread! XO Sauce on its own was so flavourful, one doesn’t need much further seasoning. End the meal on a sweet note with Chinese New Year desserts like Love Letters, Kueh Bangkit, Kueh Bahulu and Mandarin Orange Pound Cake or all-time favourite, Durian Pengat.

Shiyun Food Junction

Cooked food at our hawkers are always the best, don’t you guys agree? Shi Yun Food Junction has proved it in their 2018 Chinese New Year menu, a delicious 8-course meal suitable for 8-10 person at S$368. The 8-course meal includes 发财鱼生 (Yu-Sheng), 干贝鱼鳔蟹肉翅 (Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Fish Maw & Conpoy), 港式蒸活红斑 (Hong Kong Style Steamed Live Red Garoupa), 海参元蹄 (Braised Pig Trotters with Sea Cucumber), 西兰花带子 鲍贝 & (Braised Broccoli with Scallops, Pacific Clam & Conpoy), 咸蛋虾 (Salted Egg Prawn), 腊味炒饭 (Waxed Pork Fried Rice) and of course finishing up with a dessert.

Even though I’m not a lover of fish, I’ve got to say my favourite was the Garoupa. It was sweet and tender, one serving was definitely not enough for me.

Another favourite has got to be the scallops which, no joke, melts in your mouth. A popular dish amongst everyone on the table was the salted egg prawn, tasting ever so good and flavourful. Every dish served was mouth-watering and calls out to be eaten.

Takujo Japanese Dining

Takujo Japanese Dining at Marina Square is one of the restaurants within Emporium Shokuhin. Serving modern Japanese cuisine while dining in an intimate setting. The fresh catches are imported from Japan and other parts of the world.

My eyes all on the sashimi plate; always makes my eyes pop and my tummy hungry. This plate was from Takujo at Emporium Shokuhin. The Japan-imported assorted sashimi like sea bream and yellowtail alongside with lohei ingredients including seaweed, jellyfish, cranberries, yuzu peel, white daikon and a drizzle of delicious homemade Ehime Citrus sauce. This sashimi yusheng is one of my favourite this year.

Takujo Signature Sashimi Yusheng at S$88++ (serves 4 to 6 pax).

Takujo Lobster Pen Cai Claypot features Live Whole Boston Lobster, Hokkaido Scallops (10 pcs), Baby Abalone (10 pcs), Sea Cucumber, Tiger Prawns (10 pcs), Kurobuta Pork Belly, Braised Vegetables and Fa Cai. Not forgetting the delicious and flavourful broth in this pot. Hooray! It’s time to go grab that bowl!

Yum Cha Chinatown

Yum Cha showcases its specially-crafted Chinese New Year menu including nian gao egg tart with nian gao below the egg tart custard, the tangerine bun that resembles our mandarin orange and is filled with char siew and chicken floss inside. A special mention of the set menu such as salmon and crispy fish skin yu sheng and double boiled ginseng chicken soup. I can taste the ginseng in the luxurious chicken soup which lends a mild, supporting yet distinctive sweet taste to the soup.

Yum Cha Chinese New Year Set Menu will be available at all the outlets.
