In Singapore, the typical season for Durian is usually between June and August. Durian connoisseurs love its bittersweet taste and sticky, creamy buttery texture. Reactions are always extreme. You either love it or hate it, and it always makes a strong contrast. So, where does one actually satisfy their cravings for this sinfully sweet and bitter fruit? Get ready for Durian High Tea Buffet at Marriott Tang Plaza, Durian High Tea Set and Durian Dinner Buffet at Swissotel Merchant Court.

Durian lovers will be delighted with the high tea buffet at Marriott Tang Plaza. Sweet and savoury durian creations made from D24 and Ang Hei Durian. Besides the array of durian pastries, you can also anticipate DURIAN PIZZA. Sink your teeth into DURIAN PIZZA and let the smooth and creamy durian filling ooze. Don’t forget to leave a space for Singapore’s local food like Laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Satay, Chilli Crab Sauce & International Cuisines like Shanghai Dumpling, Spicy Lentils and more!

Start by filling your plate with seafood on ice and local delights including satay, they are promptly refilled so feel free to eat till you drop!

One of my favourite items from the buffet menu would be durian pizza. It was a nice crisp pizza crust. Topped with cheese and durian paste that would almost melt in our mouth whilst the flaked coconut that can be a tad chewy. It is recommended to eat it while its hot.

What’s on the durian pastries menu? Durian Cake, Durian Cupcake, Durian Creme Brulee, Durian Mousse, Durian Crumble, Durian Cream Puff. That’s not all, the pancake live station is something you definitely wouldn’t want to miss; piping hot pancakes are freshly prepared, served with durian paste and your desire toppings including M&M chocolates and more! You may also add scoops of ice cream at the ice cream counter to give that extra punch.

How I wish that this is a permanent buffet menu but this Durian High Tea Buffet is available for a limited period of time from 1 June to 9 August 2017 from 3pm to 5.30pm daily. I would strongly recommend to make a reservation for your high tea buffet. It is so popular that you see queue swarming even before the operating hours.

Each afternoon tea requires a minimum of two diners.

The decadent afternoon tea selection for two features 11 savoury and sweet. The savoury flavours of Nyonya sandwiches including Sambal Ayam Panggang Sandwich, Otah Otah on Toast,  Soya Braised Pork Belly in Steamed Leaf Bun, Kueh Pie Tee, Yam Cake with X.O.Sauce, Nyonya Chicken Curry Puff. The sweet flavours of Durian Treats including Durian Cream Puff, Durian Crêpe, Durian Pudding, Durian Eclaire, Durian Swiss Roll and Durian Tart. Diners can choose to pair their afternoon tea with exquisite TWG Tea which includes Singapore Breakfast Tea or freshly brewed coffee.

We started with the delicate tasting Sambal Ayam Panggang Sandwich. The meat remains succulent and tender. A wonderful combination of sweet and savoury taste elements. A Must-Try!

Although this is not a buffet, the afternoon tea set is pretty filling. I guess I’d have to skip lunch the next time I visit.

The durian feast continues with The King of Durian, Mao Shan Wang, priced at S$7.50 per 100g as it weighs the fruit without the husk. Guests can specify and will be charged accordingly to their desired serving amount. Putting durian asides, you can also expect the Signature Ayam Buah Keluak, Black Bean Slipper Lobster and fresh seafood selection on ice. Freshly shucked oyster is one of the most popular seafoods; it got wiped out once its out. I wish I could get the whole tray and learn how to shuck on my table; just kidding!
