Instead of using pastry I have used a wrap, and when I was testing this recipe I was a little concerned as to how they would come out, but they did not let me down.
It saves a few calories by having a wrap instead of flaky pastry, and doesn't compromise on the enjoyment of the dish!
The filling is super rich with a lovely little kick to it.
If you don't like spice you can reduce the amount of chilli you add to the dish.
Always add a little and then taste before adding the whole lot it!
What do you use to make the patties?
You don't have to use this, but one thing I used to make my life easier was an empanada press/dumpling mould. They are super cheap to pick up on Amazon and you can use them to cut the wrap to size and press the sides down. You can of course just use your hands and then use a fork to crimp the edges, but it is always fun to have a gadget!
This pack has 3 different sizes to it for a bit of variety. Once you start making these, you will be experimenting with all different flavoured fillings!
What is a beef patty?
Beef Patty is a a dish which originates from Jamacia and is a semi-circle pastry with a spicy meat filling. This dish is my take on a patty but made with a tortilla wrap instead of flaky pastry, and my own Jamaican-inspired flavour combination.
They are perfect as a lunch or picnic idea.
