Workshop Brothers, Southbank

MELBOURNE | Workshop Brothers is a Southbank cafe, just behind the main waterfront strip on Riverside Quay. The focus is on excellent coffee, and Asian inspired brunch dishes. I recently visited to snap some shots for What’s On Melbourne.

The interior, designed by Studio Tate, is inspired by the brasseries of New York City. An eight metre tall ceiling makes for an airy space. It’s accentuated by curved timber mouldings, granite benches, tan leather seats, and suede benches.

Coffee wise, the range is extensive. There’s a full selection of espresso and filter options, brewed any way you like. Choose from a variety of milks, and non-coffee options like matcha, hot chocolate, and chai lattes. There’s also a selection of juices, teas, and smoothies.

The food menu draws inspiration from across Asia, but in particular South East Asia. ‘Mr Oko-Nomi-Yaki’, is a tasty take on Japanese Okonomiyaki – carrot and cabbage fritters, topped with poached egg, cucumber, coriander, sesame seeds, togarashi, tonkatsu sauce, and kewpie mayo.

Also try the ‘Big Brother Bennie’. Ham hock terrine, spinach, poached eggs, and harissa hollandaise inside a toasted croissant.

If you’re in a rush, there’s a selection of pastries, rolls, and sandwiches which you can grab and go.
