Tiny’s, Perth CBD

PERTH | Tiny’s is a place that’s tiny in name but anything but in reality. Housed in the space that used to be home to Bar One, the latest venture from Perth hospitality power duo Paul Aron and Michael Forde ( Greenhouse, Cantina 663, El Publico, Ace Pizza, Mary Street Bakery) is part bar, part restaurant, part liquor store and, long story short, manages to succeed at being all three.

The space has been opened and brightened up, with lots of timber, leather and natural tones creating a warm atmosphere that opens up into a courtyard bar area. It’s a little bit 1970s but not so much that it’s over done, and fits in well with the architecture of the Harry Siedler designed QV1 tower that rises above it. Bar stools and high seating feature at the front of the venue while more traditional seating and a plush booth await further back.

The menu features an eclectic selection of dishes influenced by European and Asian cuisines, with head chef Josh Gray blending varied influences and flavours to great effect. Fresh vegetables and herbs come from the kitchen’s rooftop garden, while meats are roasted on Tiny’s custom-made wood-fire grill and rotisserie. It’s hard to decide what to order first, with other menu options including things like a king oyster mushroom stick with black garlic and soy yolk, and mushroom cigars with scarmoza, labneh, and curry leaf. A highlight, the rotisserie chicken, is served with potatoes cooked in the fat that’s dripped off the slowly rotating chicken. The flavour is sublime, and each bite evokes memories of the best rotisserie chicken in Paris.

For drinks its craft Beer, seasonal cocktails and small batch wines. Eight beer taps rotate with a selection of  local and independent beers from the likes of Gage Roads, Eagle Bay, and Rocky Ridge, with further options in bottles and cans. For wine lovers it’s about 20 different bottles across a variety of styles, and for those looking for cocktails there’s the classics, along with seven unique creations and a few non-alcoholic options.

For those wanting to purchase something to drink later, Tiny’s Liquor Emporium next door offers over 300 wines and a range of spirits and craft beers, including several small batch and limited release bottles.

Tiny’s is a great addition to this part of town, and lives up to the expectations set given the pedigree of its owners. Whether its a drink and snack or a sit down meal, there’s a lot to like here – we know we’ll be back again.
