Ling Nan, Melbourne CBD

MELBOURNE | Ling Nan is a no-nonsense Chinese restaurant with a large menu full of Cantonese and other Chinese favourites. It’s been around for a long time and a lot of people have varying options about the place, but for us it’s a great late night option when you’re in the CBD and looking for a tasty late night feed.

The service is abrupt and bordering on rude but if you know what to expect it’s kind of part of the atmosphere. These guys are dealing with drunk hungry people all night so you can understand why things are they way they are. The key is don’t dilly dally about – it’s a small, high turnover restaurant where you wait a short while for a table, sit down, order quickly, eat and leave. It’s fast, cheap, and tasty. Recommendations include the XO pipies with Chinese doughnuts, shredded duck pancakes, and salt & pepper fried chicken.

If you can’t finish all your food takeaway containers are available to bring your food home. Probably not the place to visit for a nice meal during reasonable hours, but a fail safe option after a big night out on the town.
