Paradise Garage, Bethnal Green

LONDON | Paradise Garage is housed under the railway arches on Paradise Row in Bethnal Green, next door to one of London’s best craft beer bars/shops, Mother Kelly’s. It’s the brainchild of chef Robin Gill (The Dairy, The Manor), and sees Gill draw upon many of his influences to create food that’s exciting an on trend. Time spent working with Rene Redzepi has clearly influenced Gill, who isn’t afraid to throw convention out the door and use all kinds of ingredients and techniques to create his dishes, along with head chef Simon Woodrow.

The space is as on trend as the food – the railway arch setting, polished concrete floors, filament lighting – all ’round industrial chic. It works, but when the place gets busy things can get loud – it’s not the place for a first date or a quiet meal, although the story is a bit different out front in the somewhat more relaxing courtyard.

The drinks list is solid, with more than enough wines, beers and spirits to keep most people happy. Combined with attentive service and knowledgeable staff, it all comes together for a very pleasing meal.
