CHICAGO | Public House River North is a gastropub and sports bar that knows beer. With six cicerones (basically beer sommeliers) on staff ready to help you pick your beverage of choice from over 100 types of beer in house, its no problem to find something for any mood and occasion. There are 25 rotating beers on tap, including Public House’s House Brew that has been designed and brewed by Goose Island.
We often find ourselves at Public House to check out a game (or a few) at one of the table tap booths where we keep the beer flowing. The table taps allow for one liquor plus two beer selections to be chosen by the group. There is not a bad view in the house with a video wall and 27 plasma TVs playing all of the sports we can handle.
Upscale pub food is not to be missed. It’s quite a large menu, featuring favorites like Multiple Choice Mac N’ Cheese with burnt end brisket, baja fish tacos, and burrata flatbread. Friends with a sweet-tooth who simply can’t do without some beer can’t pass up the vanilla stout cake shake. Public House also serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The bloody mary with a loaded up skewer of fresh mozzarella, a smoked chicken wing, thick cut bacon, bourbon glazed shrimp, pepper jack cheese, pickle, and asparagus can be a meal in itself. On a lighter day, a mimosa with Tiamo Prosecco and guava puree is the perfect way to start the morning.
