EASY JERK LINGUINE ALFREDO WITH SHRIMP

Spice up Pasta Alfredo with jerk seasoning! This creamy linguine and Shrimp dish has a nice amount of heat, and zhooshed up store bought Alfredo Sauce makes it perfect for a quick and easy weeknight dinner.

I love seafood and pasta dishes. They are filling, always satisfy, and can usually be on the table quickly. This has linguine in a creamy semi-homemade sauce consisting of onion, garlic, diced tomatoes, jarred Alfredo sauce, Jamaican jerk seasoning, and shrimp.

A little bit of jerk seasoning goes a long way. The 2 1/2 teaspoons used in this recipe give the dish a medium to medium high heat (depending on your tolerance). Reduce or increase the amount to suit your taste. Keep in mind that it’s better to use less and add more, because once you add the seasoning, it’s hard to take the heat back out.

Recommended side suggestions for this pasta:

My family is happy with just the pasta for dinner, but you can add a side for a well rounded meal. Below are some great sides:
  • Steamed or roasted broccoli
  • Simple salad
  • Roasted Black Pepper Caesar Salad with Pancetta
  • Sautéed Garlicky Watercress with Bacon

Recipe highlights:
  • Ingredients you will need...

  • Cook pasta in boiling water while you are cooking the sauce.

  • Sauté onion and a pinch of salt and pepper in olive oil. Add garlic.

  • Add diced tomatoes, shrimp, jerk seasoning, salt and pepper. Cook until shrimp is almost completely cooked.

  • Pour in Alfredo sauce. Add cooked linguine when the sauce is bubbly.

  • Enjoy!
  • See recipe card below for detailed instructions.

Recipe substitutions:

What’s great about this dish is its versatility. Not a fan of seafood? Swap out or omit the shrimp. Can’t handle the heat? You can make this pasta dish without the the spiciness. Below are substitution ideas:
  • Don’t want shrimp? Replace with fish or chicken.
  • Make it vegetarian: omit shrimp and add spinach, broccoli, or cauliflower.
  • Use another type of pasta: fettuccine, pene, angle hair, and bowtie to name a few.
  • For the same flavor profile without the heat, use a mild jerk seasoning (affiliate link).

Which is better? Served pasta & sauce combined or with sauce over pasta?

I like it either way, but my husband prefers to have the dish with the sauce over the pasta instead of combined together. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a personal choice. It’s entirely up to you how to plate the meal.

However, if you plan to have leftovers, I recommend keeping the pasta and sauce separated. The reason being that pasta soaks in the sauce over time if they are combined and dries out the sauce (but it’s still delish!).

Make this quick and easy pasta dish for a stress-free dinner. (If you get shrimp that are already shelled and deveined, life is even easier!) The sauce ingredients require about 12 minutes to cook. And including the time it takes to boil water for the pasta, the meal can be on the table in 30 minutes. That’s a win any day of the week!

Serve with a glass of wine, beer, or another favorite cocktail and turn the meal into special one! This is good enough to serve to company. They will never know that you used jarred Alfredo sauce.

EASY JERK LINGUINE ALFREDO WITH SHRIMP

INGREDIENTS:

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
6 medium to large plum tomatoes, diced
2 1/2 teaspoons Jamaican Jerk Seasoning (affiliate link)
1 1/2 pounds large (31/35 count) shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 (15 oz.) jars of creamy Alfredo sauce (I use Classico)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Bring a large stock pot of water to a boil while prepping ingredients for the sauce. Add linguine to the boiling water just before you start cooking the sauce ingredients. Cook linguine according to package directions. Drain.
  2. Preheat a large skillet on medium heat. Add oil, onion, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Sauté for 3 minutes. Add garlic. Sauté for 1 minute.
  3. Add tomato, shrimp, jerk seasoning, and the rest of the salt and pepper. Cook until the shrimp are mostly pink.
  4. Add Alfredo sauce. Increase heat to medium high. Cook until sauce is hot and bubbly, stirring frequently.
  5. Add cooked linguine, working it into the sauce. Season to taste. Remove from heat.
  6. Best served immediately.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Recipe notes:
  1. If you plan to have leftovers, do not combine the pasta and sauce in the skillet. Serve pasta with sauce on top. Store any leftovers in separate containers. If the pasta and sauce are stored combined, the pasta soaks up the sauce upon sitting and reduces the creaminess for the dish once reheated.
