Making The Cold Brew Coffee

Making your cold brew coffee is easy and replicating Starbucks cold brew coffee is effortless. To match what you get at Starbucks, simply buy and use their Ready To Drink coffee in a box or their cold brew pitcher packs.

Alternatively, you can use their breakfast blend coffee beans.

Using Starbucks Breakfast Blend

For this recipe we are going to make 64 oz (1.92 liters) since cold brew coffee takes a long time to brew.

Start by weighing your coffee beans. For this recipe we will use a coffee to water ratio of 1:8. Weight 8 ounces (240 grams) of whole coffee beans.

Once you have your coffee grounds weighed, grind them to a coarse, even grind size using a ceramic conical burr grinder.

A ceramic conical burr grinder provides the best quality of grind with the greatest consistency and helps to protect the coffee beans from heat while being ground.

Place your coffee ground in a glass container with an airtight lid. Add your 1.92 liters (64 oz) of ice-cold water and place it in your fridge to extract.

When you extract at a low temperature, you will get all the low temperature compounds in your brew. The brewing time will be longer, but it is worth it. The brewing time is typically 16 hours to 24 hours.

After 16 hours taste test your coffee. If it is not perfect, test again every 2 to 3 hours until it is perfect for you.

Once it is ready, filter out the coffee grounds using a metal coffee filter or a sieve. Using a metal filter will achieve the best results as you will get all the delicious coffee oils your coffee, using a paper filter will remove all the coffee oil.

A cloth filter will remove some of the oil.

Salted Cream Cold Foam Recipe

This recipe for making the salted cream cold foam takes out the complexity and replicates what Starbucks has.

Here are the ingredients that you will need.

Ingredients

Caramel Sauce

It is entirely your own choice if you want to be a fancy Nancy and make your own. I find messing around making my own sauce inconvenient. Store-bought caramel sauce is much more convenient.

There are a few great brands that you can use, Torani Pure made Sauce, Monin, Ghirardelli and Hollander caramel sauce. For a sugar-free option DaVinci gourmet and Torani have great quality caramel sauce that you can use.

Vanilla Syrup

Same with the caramel syrup you can make your own – its so easy Just water, sugar and vanilla pod are needed. You just use a 50/50 water and sugar solution and add your freshly sliced vanilla pod and slowly bring your solution to a boil.

Let it cool and then filter the vanilla pod.

For convenience, you can buy vanilla syrup online. Amazon has Starbucks if you want an exact replica, Torani (sugar & sugar-free). If you want to get fancy you can try French vanilla and Madagascar vanilla syrup.

Sea Salt

For a perfect salty-sweet coffee drink and that salted part to the salted cream cold foam and to turn the caramel into a salted caramel.

Of course you could buy salted caramel sauce, but when you add your own salt you can end up with a better one, a sea salted caramel sauce or if you so wish, Himalayan pink salt.

It is also more convenient as you end up with a caramel sauce and a salted version when you want and need to.

Half And Half Cream

By using half-and-half cream you save yourself from buying and using two ingredients and save yourself that little extra step.

Ice

Either buy your ice or use filtered water to make your own.

That is all the ingredients that you will need for making the salted cream cold foam, the most difficult part of this recipe.

Let’s now talk about making the cold brew coffee.

Instructions

This is very easy to make, very easy.

Add the half-and-half cream, your vanilla syrup and a dash of sea salt into your French press or blender to make the salted cream cold foam.

Blend at a high speed. If you are using a French press, pump your French press by pushing down on the plunger repeatedly until it is ready.

Pour some caramel sauce into your cup and add your cold brew coffee. Top up with your cold foam. Stir well before you drink.
