Breville Barista Express Review

Todays edition will be a Breville Barista Express Review- widely known, very popular, and affordably priced! But does it live up to the hype? We are about to find out!

First Impressions During the Breville Barista Express Review

The Breviile Barista Express is easy to set up straight out of the box, and once all put together, it really is a thing of beauty.

As it was my first official Coffee machine, it looked quite intimidating at first. However, due to the Instruction Book that came along with it, the set up was quick and easy!

By going through it, I was able to learn the components, accessories, and the machine functions within the first couple of uses.

Initial Set-Up

The initial set up is very straightforward and simple- remove all the labels and packaging, clean all parts and accessories using warm water and dish soap or a damp cloth.

Once all the parts are clean and dry, you can follow the set-up instructions outlined in the instruction manual.

Initial Set-Up- 10 out of 10! (quick and easy)

Important Components Of the Breville Barista Express

Bean Hopper- used to feed beans into the coffee grinder (perfect for storing whole coffee beans!)

Built-in Grinder- no need to buy a separate coffee grinder as required with some espresso machines!

54mm Tamper- perfect for tamping your ground coffee with correct amount of pressure.

Removable Drip Tray- makes for super easy clean up!

Steam Wand- perfect for steaming, foaming, frothing, and texturing your milk!

Built-In Components- 10 out of 10! (everything necessary for brewing great espresso, other than the coffee beans themselves, is included)

Choosing Your Settings

The Breville Barista Express comes with plenty of settings options designed to make your coffee the way you like it most.

Grind Size Options- being able to adjust grind size depending on coffee bean variety and the flavor of espresso you are going for.

Grind Amount Options- being able to set the amount of coffee grinds you need to get the correct amount, every time!

Filter Size Options- choose these depending on whether you want to purchase whole coffee beans or pre-ground coffee beans.

Shot Volume Options- being able to program your espresso shot volumes for both, single and double shot amounts.

Settings Options- 10 out of 10! (being able to adjust your espresso machine to a variety of coffee bean blends and espresso sizes is a must have!)

Ease Of Use

After the initial set up of the machine parts, the machine comes preprogrammed with baseline settings. If you are a beginner, you can leave these as his for the first few uses and slowly begin to adjust the settings as your knowledge and experience grows.

Practically everything is programmable and automatic- from the grind size, to the grind amount, as well as how much water should be used with either a single or double shot of espresso.

Ease Of Use- 10 out of 10! (figure out the settings your favorite coffee beans need, set it, and forget it, and adjust only as needed)

Care And Cleaning

The care and cleaning of the Brevile Barista Express is very minimal, simple, and easy to stay on top of. The three larger, more important steps will be replacing the water filter, cleaning, and descaling the machine.

Water Filter- for best results, replace every two months to reduce the need to descale the machine components.

Cleaning Cycle- the “Clean/Descale” light will start flashing when a cleaning cycle is required. Follow the instructions outlined in the instruction manual. (happens 3-4 times a year)

Descaling- the “Clean/Descale” light will come on and stay on (no flashing) when a descaling cycle is required. Follow the instructions outlined in the instruction manual. (happens 3-4 times a year)

The rest is simple- wiping down the steam wand after each use, rinsing the portafilter and filter baskets after use, and emptying and rinsing the drip and storage tray when it becomes full.

Care and Cleaning- 10 out of 10! (easy and minimal)

Troubleshooting

With the Breville Barista Express, troubleshooting what went wrong with brewing your espresso is a breeze.

Espresso Pressure Gauge- the pressure gauge will come displaying the ideal pressure zone for completing the coffee extraction.

If the gauge remains in the low zone during extraction, you know your coffee will be under-extracted. This tells you that you must grind your coffee beans using a finer setting, add more coffee grinds or both.

If it the gauge goes into the upper extraction zone, you know your espresso will be over-extracted and bitter. This tells you that you must grind your coffee beans using a more coarse setting, use less coffee overall, or a combination of both.

The instruction manual also comes with a troubleshooting guide, where you can find the problem, the possible causes, and the easy solutions to go along with it!

Troubleshooting- 10 out of 10! (easy to find the problem and discover the solution!
