Things You Need to Make Hard Boiled Eggs

  • Pot or saucepan: You need a stainless steel pot or saucepan to boil the eggs. You should place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover them with cold water.
  • Eggs: Eggs that are 1-2 weeks old are more suitable for boiling because the skin of fresh eggs is harder to separate after cooking. In fresh eggs membrane beneath the shell sticks to the shell which makes it difficult to remove the egg shell after cooking.
  • Water: To have evenly cooked eggs add enough water to cover all the eggs at least 1 inch above.

What Causes a Green or Grey Ring Around Egg Yolk and How to Avoid It?

That green/gray ring appears around the yolk because of over-cooking the eggs or or using water with a high level of iron. It’s caused from a chemical reaction, the sulfur (from the egg white) and iron (from the egg yolk).

How To Peel Hard Boiled Egg?

  • Put the egg on the cutting board. Lightly hit it with the back of the spoon and crack the shell. Put a spoon between the shell and the egg white and turn it slowly to separate the shell.
  • Put the egg on the cutting board or kitchen counter. Gently roll the egg back and forth with your hands and crack the shell. Now you can easily separate the shell.
