Apricot Jam Recipe

Apricot is one of the most nutritious and delicious summer fruits. With apricots, you can prepare a variety of tarts, cakes, pastries, cheesecakes, jams, preserves, and marmalades. You can preserve the fresh flavor of summer in a luscious apricot jam to eat all year long.

About This Recipe

It’s almost the apricot season! You can find apricots at local grocery stores from May to August. Use ripe golden, orange color apricots highlighted with blush with a sweet smell.  Isn’t it a fantastic idea to make jam with these sweet yellow fruits? Trust us, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make this apricot jam.

What You Need to Apricot Jam

  • Apricots: Use fresh, soft, and ripe apricots. Unripe apricots are not typically used to make jam due to their tart and bitter flavor.
  • Sugar: This recipe uses granulated sugar to sweeten the jam.
  • Lemon juice: The addition of lemon juice is one of the factors that helps the jam firm up. The other two are the cooking time and the amount of sugar you have added.

Instructions

  •  Wash the apricots and pat dry. slice them in half and remove the stones.
  • Next, add the apricots to a large heavy-bottomed pot and add the lemon juice and a small amount of water.
  • Cook for 15 minutes or until the apricots are soft and the juices are released.
  • Add sugar, and stir until dissolved.
  • Increase the heat and bring the fruit to a simmer, stirring continuously.
  • After a few minutes reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 30 minutes.
  • Put a small plate in the freezer to cool completely. When you feel the jam has reached the required concentration place a dollop of hot marmalade on the plate. Push the dollop with your finger, if it wrinkles, it is done. Otherwise, boil the jam for a few more minutes and try again. Note that the jam becomes thicker when placed in the refrigerator.
