6 Thrilling Things to Do in Tung Chung Hong Kong

Covered with beautiful greenery, graceful bay, and high mountains, who doesn’t want to go to such a pleasurable place. Unlike the loud city life of Hong Kong, there is so much to explore. Beautiful sightseeing, hiking, and adventures are not to be missed.

If you go to Hong Kong, you should, of course, wander through the mighty streets that are fully lit with neon. But besides, there’s much more to do in Hong Kong. One of the must-going places apart from central is Tung Chung.

Tung Chung is a smaller town yet with greater surprises. We discovered so many cool things to do in Tung Chung and listed those in this article. These to-do’s are the perfect way to experience the versatility of this modern and green city! Because you may not immediately believe it, but Tung Chung is really so much more than an island; you can also experience great adventures in nature here!

The best part? It is just 10 minutes away from Hong Kong International Airport. Got curious? Read on and discover all below!

1. Ngong Ping 360

Ride the Ngong Ping 360 Ropeway to Ngong Ping Village on Lantau Island, enjoying stunning views along the way. If you are not afraid of heights, a cable car with a glass bottom is recommended. This can easily be combined with a visit to the Big Buddha, but this cable car is an attraction in itself. At least, this is what you’ll realize by experiencing yourself.

2. Go to the big Buddha statue on Lantau Island

From Tung Chung, you can also visit all kinds of islands. Think of Lamma Island (an island with a fishing village where many day-trippers go), Cheung Chau (a small island where you will also find temples and festivals such as the special Bun Festival, also known as the Cheung Chau Bread Festival), and the island of Lantau, our favorite from this list. On the island of Lantau, you will find a huge Buddha statue that you can go to by taking the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

Oh, and do you also think the Big Buddha (better known as the Tian Tan Buddha) is so photogenic? Then you are going to love the images you’ll shoot on the way there.

3. Enjoy the sunset or sunrise in Hong Kong

The very best place to go to see the sunrise? Lantau Peak on Lantau Island! This is Hong Kong’s best place to watch the sunrise. If you prefer to enjoy the sunset, then you must go to Sunset Peak. Check out the photo above and immediately see how cool this is. Sunset Peak is the third highest peak in Hong Kong and is some 869 meters high. You will not only find an amazing place to enjoy the sunset here, but also magically beautiful silver grass and impressive rocks.

4. A walk at Yellow Dragon Gorge

This one is a great tourist attraction and should be included in your list of things to do in Tung Chung.

Enjoy an adventurous walking tour while experiencing the incredible vertical cliffs and waterfalls on the way. Hiking at this place is not so easy, and you may have to face a lot of challenges. The overall hiking takes around 6 hours, and you’ll end up the tour in natural pools. What you will enjoy in the complete tour is the view of the crouching dragon river, bright deep forest, amazing waterfalls, V-shaped rock, and of course, the main fall, i.e., the yellow dragon at the height of 25m.

5. Shopping at the Citygate

Not to be missed- shopping at the 80 different outlets situated in the Citygate mall. This is the largest mall not only in Tung Chung but in Hong Kong. While entering the mall, you’ll see a kinetic fountain that looks stunning. It is one of the largest fountains in the whole of Asia. If you want to enjoy the nightlife of this town, then stroll through the streets and check out shops and nightlife.

6. Eating the best Pan-Asian food

One of the things you must do – see the city through the eyes of a local. Especially if this is combined with food. In Tung Chung, you can have the pleasure of eating multi-cuisine dishes. Mint & Basil in Tung Chung is just located at a distance of 10 minutes from Hong Kong international airport. Whether you like Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, or Indian cuisine, we have all at here. Take a seat in our dining room while having a peaceful dinner, or sit in the beer garden for a tipsy experience. Mint & Basil offers a wide range of menu that you can taste while enjoying live sports or music.
