Primitivo di Manduria, despite being made with Primitivo grape, should be considered a totally different wine. Not only Primitivo di Manduria is the only DOC wine despite the grape being grown all over Apulia and beyond - all other wines are bottled as IGT or IGP according to the new European legislation - but Primitivo di Manduria is a more elegant, refined, complex wine.
Primitivo grapes in the Manduria area are cultivated using the “alberello” form, free standing vines, with very limited yield and Ad Hoc is a fantastic example of the wine. With a complex nose, with hints of black fruit, full, smooth, velvety, elegant, perfectly balanced and a long lasting aftertaste, this red wine offers an outstanding value for money, costing a little more than a Primitivo IGT but delivering a totally different drinking experience.
Primitivo di Manduria wines pair perfectly rich and flavoursome dishes, check our recipes sections for ideas.
